I'm looking to add door sensors to my fence gates. What waterproof options are there?

I used this on my gate and it's working well so far. Had it about 3 weeks. .

@gustafsson These die in under 6 months. Had 3 of them do it.

@sizzle I was a little worried about that but I didn't find anything I liked better so I gave it a shot. Hope I get more than 6 months though.

Sensative strips work great, I hear not good for metal gates

I use an ecolink sensor with a wired magnetic reed switch to it. Ecolink sensor is then mounted inside a waterproof junction box on the post. 4 years strong. Replace the batteries once a year *wood fence/gate

What sort of gap would there be? If fairly tight like a door/window in your home then you can just weatherproof a standard contact sensor yourself. Otherwise you might need something that allows for a larger gap like the one pictured You would attach the leads to a Zwave/Zigbee sensor that supports an external device

@southdown434 how do you weatherproof? Mine are wired but outside.

Plastic wrap then several turns of electrical tape. putty/caulk. plastidip. UV stable hydrophobic coatings. just keep in mind how you will replace battery when the time comes

@southdown434 Plastic dip them. I sprayed mine and been over 6 months no issues. And when the time comes to replace battery just peel it off and reapply.

^ well there's a vote for the 3rd option I noted

@southdown434 plastidip works, otherwise it is welcome to the world of silicone caulk and the entertainment it provides getting it off again to replace batteries.
