With all of the switches, dimmers, and outlets we use does anybody have any suggestions or clever ideas for naming them when using an Amazon Alexa device? I read once that someone names their devices after body parts so that they are all unique. Like "Alexa, turn on femur" - for the dinning room overhead lights and the accent lights are named tibia.

I name them what they are. Livingroom overhead (pots), dining room, pendants (lights over kitchen island, etc. Works fine for me.

My kids chose the name for the lights and nightlight in their room. "Pirate Star, bad guy, My room, sun, . "

If not the actual location (e. g. Bar) then something unique to the fixture or a nearby object (e. g. Sticks, Chair, Nightstand, Firepit, Bunkbed). The only gotcha is to avoid names that are the same as the room they’re placed if there are multiple devices in that room.

If you only have a few, sure use cute names. but when you have 20+ in practically every room of your house? It’s a lot easier to remember “living room lamp” and “kitchen” than some cute name.

I find that by using Alexa Groups for each room that contain the Echo and all the lights, it no longer matters what they are named, since Alexa uses room context and “Alexa, lights on” works in every room setup this way. Very convenient.
