Question

Looking for suggestions please.  I bought a keen smart vent for my office.Looking for suggestions please. I bought a keen smart vent for my office. I would like the vent to open when I am in my office and close when I leave my office. Is there any way to accomplish this?

The simplest answer is yes. However, the part about tracking and accurate assessing room ocupancy automatically is going to be the only difficult part of this. Everything else about this sort of automation can be done quite easily in webCoRE.

@shoer2397 that part is easy of you use a motion sensor, a contact sensor on the door and couple them both to Bangali's rooms manager smartapp.

@anatolia7046 Thanks. I'm not sure this sort of system would work for me, though. Does it matter if the door doesn't have a normal position (i. e. it is opened and closed randomly most of the day, and left open for random lengths of time)? So, can you explain how it works (or point me to a forum thread that does)?

@hague if I use a motion sensor what happens when I'm just sitting and not moving enough to trigger the sensor?

Base it on there being motion in the last 10 minutes. I do the same thing with the lights in my office and I rarely have to do something to intentionally trigger it.

I believe you should be able to set up your vent in the same way but I don't have one so can't say for sure.

In that room I use the smartthings sensor - it works well

If the light in your office is on a smart switch and it is on when you are in the office and off when you leave it, you could use that switch as a trigger for the vent operation.

@mullin sadly my house is old. My switches are not smart and the wiring is missing the wire needed for smart switches
