Has anyone used this with smartthings? Im thinking about getting one of these by the front door, the idea being that i can control the garage door, lock all of the doors, set certain scenes or turn on switches from this devices, based on whats going on (example, i can see the garage door from the front door, so id love to be able to close it right there while its on my mind). It looks really interesting but im curious about how well it works with smartthings and if it can run local.

I ordered one, but haven’t gotten it to do anything yet. It adopts as a remote, but nothing to set. I can’t find a device driver to load. I did found something that said it wasn’t really a device but a controller and you had to program it outside the hub. If anyone has any info on adding it, I’d love to get this working

@nasturtium I just ordered one, so I don’t know if this will work, but have you installed and looked in the “Smart Lighting” smart app? Or “ABC Manager” is another good option.

@jago13 I found smart lights, but it did not recognize it. I look for abc. Here is the manual, I used the “with a hub” instructions, but stopped when it wanted me to reprogram existing switches to the new one. Oh, also I can barely read the instructions because I smashed my glasses while wearing a mask to go buy groceries and the mask pushed them off and I crushed them catching them

Bad picture try this

Didn’t show up in abc, do I need to change the device type? Right now it shows as a Zwave Remote

Woah - are these the Jasco “remotes” announced like 4 years ago at CES?
by (7.4k points)
@bootlace not sure. Someone posted this in a comment earlier (maybe in a different page, I'm not sure) and I think someone said these were announced at CES several years ago

@imperturbation91375 i was excited when they were announced, since they seemed like vaporware i just used smartthings buttons

Ive got smartthings buttons around, but i like the look of this, i can turn a 3 gang box into a 4 gang look and add this to the mix and probably do some cool stuff with it. its zwave so im sure it works, im just curious about what you can do natively. like does it see 8 buttons that i can use to start routines? if it sees them as buttons, this would be awesome.

How is this powered ? I’ve had terrible experiences with the SmartThings buttons.

Ive had great luck with smartthings buttons. this looks to be battery powered, but that doesnt bother me

Battery. But it's Z-Wave, not Zigbee like your other buttons which you are probably having issue with due to poor Zigbee mesh. Add more Zigbee repeating devices and you'll solve all of your problems.

This will not work through the hub for any automation without a custom DH to expose any functionality. It really was designed to be a secondary controller to trigger devices directly and bypass the hub. I'll dig it and write something up as soon as I get mine.

Oh damn. thats disappointing. do you have any info on the custom handler? i might scrap this, then, i just wanted a way to control a bunch of devices from the door, but i have a 4 button controller i can use.

A public one doesn't exist yet. I'm sure people have made their own. I'll do the same when I get mine.

Not sure how well these work but I use Homeseer WS 200+ which allows up to 10 different events per switch. Works well with ST.

@tailwind Yeah, that's a great switch. I've put many in client homes but can't justify the cost for myself. Plus very few switches have a neutral in my house, and I'm not planning to rewire.

I have sharptools and action tiles, but getting an outlet to the front isnt an easy task, which is why i want a battery powered controller like this GE device

Also, cloud based.

I've spent a few hours playing with this device and found that it will never work as a button controller. It only reports wake notices and battery level across the lifeline association group (to the primary controller / hub). You can use it to turn other Z-Wave devices on/off directly, but that is all. No custom DH will change this. :(

Bummer, guess I'll send mine back. It came today. Was hoping to control my 8 zigbee osram down lights. The lightify dimmer is the only reliable button so far. Inovelli has too much lag when using its smart bulb mode. Currently using a zwave switch with no load.

That's disappointing. If it was just basic buttons, I'd likely have gotten one. If it can't do that, not interested.
