For those that use the Night mode, what automation do you use to bring it back to Home mode? Just a basic routine on a schedule? Or triggered by some movement?

Heres how mine works: 8 different standard modes for different parts of day. Webcore rotates these in a piston on a normal schedule but shifts specific mode transitions up and back based on a series of rules i coded pulled from: A Google home automation calendar (holidays, stay home, guests, etc. ) Day of week virtual switches that can be turned on and off by alexa to further modify the behavior (advance a mode, go back to previous mode, etc. ) LUX sensors (in case the weather is wreaking havoc with lighting and its darker or lighter than expected) Then certain sensors such as under mattress sleep sensors or motion detection can further modify the mode. In essence the house runs a series of scheduled modes and adjusts automagically. The modes then filter which automations run or scenes run based on room occupancy sensors. Complicated yes, but I dont think ive touched a light switch in over a month.

How do you create additional modes?

@anatolia7046 can you explain the Google Home automation calendar a little more?

@jodijodie sure. Btw nit google home. Just Google Calendar. Everything you need is here: . It creates a virtual switch or presence sensor that is on when a calendar item matching your specific subject line is active.

@anatolia7046 I use the GCal for holidays. I was wondering what all the ways for modes you use it

@jodijodie sure. Most important - I import my wife's school calendar so on school holidays the morning routines get delayed by two hours if school holiday is active when I switch to Early AM mode. (thou shal not wake a teacher on vacation) I look for Guest and if so, I disable all automation in the guest bedroom when its active. Date Nite calendar items active anytime after evening mode starts will stop the modes advancing past 'night. ' Once date nite is no longer active normal schedule resumes. Pause in the calendar at any time throws the system into pause mode. All of my automation is designed go stop if im in Pause Mode.

@anatolia7046 I’ve been looking for something like that to avoid automation on holidays

I say "Alexa, good morning" which turns on a virtual switch that sets it back to home mode.

I use the good morning routine activated by motion between certain times

I check phone presence sensors first to see if all are home before running the home routine. Then I use a presence sensor located near the staircase. Just an extra layer of security in case one of our cats trip the sensor.

I've got 2 withings sleep sensors and when either the wife or I get out of bed and the time is after 630am it switches the mode to home morning.

Luminescence sensor outside. Triggers a piston in WebCore to switch to day time mode. Also turns off lighting and adjusts AC etc. Don't need WebCore though, could do it in the ST app. Advantage of the luminescence sensor is that it will always be correct regardless of people, weather or daylight savings time.

Time: automatically at 6:30am. Or motion after 6am.

Button, or an Alexa routine. Lights are Red during nigh/away modes.

SmartThings good morning routine “when things start happening” option between 7-10am, only run once. This usually means whenever one of our cats decides to go on a rampage between 7:00am and 7:05am, but it gets the job done.

I use movement after 0700, with a hard change at 1000 irrespective of movement.
