I have a mix between new ST ones and the old square ones. The old ones are juke, I have to change batteries constantly. The new ones I haven’t change the battery once and it’s been a over a year since the first one I put up.

I use Iris sensors. They are motion, humidity and temp. They work very well with ST and the response time is very quick.

+1 For IRIS. Battery life is stellar in Gen 3 version.

I second the motion on SmartThings motion sensors - if your Zigbee mesh is reliable, they are the most responsive that I've found. I do use the Ecolink version where the cats roam, but a little opaque tape does the same on the ST ones.

Smartthings. Sensor works great and the magnet base is ingenious.

Ecolink sensors are very responsive and have a great battery life (10 years). Monoprice on the other hand have a temp sensor built into them with a shorter battery life and a little less responsiveness

10 year battery life? really? The iris sensors I have you have to change batteries monthly almost.

yes, have 10+ and they running the original batteries from 7 years ago with 90-95% on most of them depending on usage. Just one is down to be replaced which is probably used a 100 times a day in the common area.

Ok. Got a brand new ecolink. Unfortunately it shows the state of 'motion' constantly.

What battery does the new ST motion sensor use? I never considered them before because the battery life on the originals was so bad - good to hear people seem to be having better battery life with the new ones.

I believe all the latest gen smartthings brand devices take cr2450 batteries. My motion sensor has been going for over 6 months since I last put new batteries in.
