Anyone have any thoughts on the ST Mesh Wifi system? Tossing around the idea of that or Eero + ST hub for a new home.

I'd never combine my wifi mesh into the same device as my IoT hub. You'll on average change out your WiFi every 3 years. Your IoT hub is probably a 5-8 year decision. If they're the same device then you're having to change both when you want to upgrade WiFi and right now at least with ST it's an ACT of CONGRESS to migrate between ST hubs. I say stick with a good reputable WiFi mesh and keep your ST hub separate.

Thank you. that's kind of what i've been thinking. and it's the same as the old DVD/VHS combos. if one goes they both go. I've migrated a few hubs with ST and i think you're understating the amount of work if you have more than 3 devices hahahaha.

@analogize i have 200 devices and had a Zigbee radio scare (temporarily dropped) earlier this year. It was worth the week if efforts with ST support to fix it to avoid the monthblong process of moving to a new V3 hub.

@anatolia7046 Do you have any experience with Ring's hub for lighting automation?

I have two ST hubs that are meshed. You dont have to buy the 3 pack hubs to get a meshed network. I called tech support and they walked me through meshing the two hubs. I am going to buy a third one later and meshing them all. it works great with the two hubs and i have devices between the two.

I can’t confirm if combining is a good idea as I didn’t but, I have the linksys velope mesh wifi and love it.

Get an Orbi Mesh router system and a ST hub. Don't bother with the Samsung mesh system.

I love my eero system.

The biggest issue I have with eero though is that it will not let you select the 2. 4 or 5ghz wifi, auto detects what you are capable of and thats what you get. Makes it hard to setup some smart home stuff that is 2. 4ghz only and you need your phone on that network as well. My solution is an old iphone 5 that isn't capable of 5ghz, turn it on when needed, but recently setting up my robot lawn mower, I could not use that because it required a newer operating system than the iphone 5 is capable of, so I had to plug my old router back in for a bit.

I really liked my set up but it couldn’t handle my gigabit speed’s well. I’m actually selling mine. I upgraded to a unifi system.

Got a Linksys Velop 6600 3 node. 1 node seems to be plenty for my house though! Very expensive, but check eBay

Ubiquiti makes better systems and so does amplifi and they are related.

I got a Netgear Orbi mesh, seriously regret it. I'd get a Ubiquiti setup if i was to do it again.

Stay away from ST mesh. How tech savvy are you? Amplifi works great for consumer/home use. They just came out with a WiFi 6 system if you want to future proof.  If you are tech savvy and want lots of customization, flexibility and ability to scale (more APs) recommend Unifi Dream Machine https://store. ui. com/products/unifi-dream-machine
