I have a pool heater (230v) that is controlled by pentair equipment and their app. It normally works well. But today we noticed the pool was not heating and discovered the breaker had tripped. Sadly their software has nothing to indicate that it was not running. What ideas do you have in using ST to determine if the unit is actually on? Thanks

You could put a smart bulb on the same circuit, if it becomes inaccessible the power is out, or switch or modules to I guess.

GE Z-Wave Plus Direct Wire Indoor/Outdoor 40 Amp Lighting Control Smart Switch. It can monitor consumption. Give you a time when it trips or create an alert with the smart switch lost connection

@anjelicaanjou8259 great idea if I needed an additional controller. A bit expensive just to know if the breaker tripped.

@glottology depends on your setup. If you need 220v or 2 110v circuits. I use it to automate my 50 gallon electric water heater.

@anjelicaanjou8259 I did the same with a hot water heater at a previous house. This heater is controlled by pentairs controller which in itself works fine, its just too dumb to know if the circuit has tripped. crazy.

So - I have that same setup - can you turn the unit back on or will it trip the breaker right away? Is it a heat pump by chance? If so, check the air temp coming out of the unit vs. the ambient air temp. It should be 6-8 degrees cooler. Post up results.

@hinder I flipped the breaker back on and so far it's stayed on.

And yes it is a heat pump.

@glottology - measure the temp coming out - is it 6-8 degrees (or more) cooler than ambient? You may have blown the compressor capacitor. I just did my unit 5 years old. I watched the guy replace it 5 min. He said usually every 5 years or so one will go. My service call for this was 180. I bought a spare for next time. 20 bux. Yours might be something else but could be this.

Ok. its less than a year old. I will call the installer tomorrow and have them check it.
