Hi I'm flying with a 1. 5 year old on a long trip (luckily with 3 other adults) so we can share the care on the flight! Any tips to make it an easy flight? He doesn't has his own seat so is there anything anyone know to make it as comfortable as possible? Thanks x

I had this for my baby for flights to Spain and to America. He slept the whole way back from America on my lap in this mattress. Your wee one is older but it would still work sitting up. It just makes them more comfortable.

Some snacks, small toys I pad with some kids stuff on, it's hard but try not to let them sleep so hopefully sleep on the plain. Remember calpol incase of sore ears. Hopefully be fine

Bring lots of nappies and a few changes of clothes in your carry on! I didn't when travelling with my 1 Yr old child on a 4 hour flight, and she had an nappy explosion. So definitely better to have a lot extra, than not have them if it happens!

I’ve also heard that you should buy some small toys (could probably use their own toys) and wrap them. Let the child unwrap and play with a toy then when they get bored get another one. Definitely downloads tv shows as well x

@fouquet I used to do this with my two (they're 24 and 19 now ) I picked small bits up from carboot sales and made up a little plastic bag of a variety of bits for each hour of the flight. (Cheap Playmobil, wind up toys, all just 10p and 20p stuff) Then you've also got a load of stuff to spread on a towel in the shade round the pool.

See if you can get seats within extra leg room, I was so I comfortable and so was my daughter, next time we fly she will be 2 and have her own seat but I would never fly with a toddler again without extra leg room. We took her peppa pig dvds amd portable DVD player, and colours and she was ok with, it was a 4 hour flight xx

Me my daughter and son in law took their daughter to New York . she was 15 months old. (We went Newcastle to Charles de Gaulle then nyc) Got front seats with a bassinet - wasn’t loads of room on it but enabled her to nap. few small toys and snacks. She was fine

Don't over dress them, have something that's easy to take off, as they get hot sitting on you knee, find this makes then fidgety n grumpy.

Snacks n toys helped with my son. Hopefully ur flight isn't full and you can get a spare seat. My mum moved to a spare seat on our journey home so my 20month old could get a seat next to me. Helped loads. He had no room on our way there. Only thing I wish I took for the flight was a blanet for him. Coz we had it packed in the case.

I have taken my little one away since about 9 months old. They should fit in with you so dont be afraid to just go with the flow, it's easier than it may seem. We take a fully loaded ipad with games, films etc small gifts that can be unwrapped at intermittent periods (such as colouring/reading books, cars, cards, pencils) def take plenty of snacks and something they can suck chew when taking off and landing (or give a bottle) as that with help prevent the ears from blocking. Also if he has a blanket/comforter take that. Those neck cushions can also come in handy as a pillow, you can get inflatable ones now to save on space also. Good luck ;)

I did this on a night flight, and found my son wasnt able to sleep and get comfy on my lap. I ended up for an hour in the toilet with him on the changing table sleeping. :-( Would really advise a travel bassonet/sling/extra leg room etc, anything so they can lay down if needed x I'm sure you've got the rest covered re games snacks etc x
