For the record pickled beets are NOT zero points. Iate them tonight assuming the were. That is the saddest 3 weekly point I ever ate. Anyone else eat somethingthinking it was free and finding out later that its not?

Not zero points because of the sugar in them. I made a batch of pickled beet eggs yesterday and they are zero as I used canned beets, vinegar and 10 packets of Stevia for 18 eggs. Can’t wait for them to be ready!

I make my own pickled eggs and beets. 0 points on Blue. I do not add sugar. just canned beets. eggs. salt pepper vinegar and water.

@methodism23 that's exactly what I do
by (1.8k points)
@aileneaileron3 my opinion is the sugar is useless! I leave it out of most recipes! I don’t use olive oil either. to sauté onions/celery/ carrots etc. I use a splash of broth 0 points.

Unless you make it yourself it is a gamble, scan everything, and I mean everything. Some refried beans are zero, some are not, don't leave things to chance, scan everything, and track everything.
by (2.8k points)
@lipo9707 scanning isn’t always correct though. Some 0 point items will scan as having points because it is using the nutritional information and doesn’t know it’s a 0 point food. If it’s on the 0 list and doesn’t have any other added ingredients it is 0.

Yes zero but pickled beets with added sugar aren't zero

Why is that because there’s added sugar

Once, when I was shopping at Costco, I was starving. So I ate a Costco hot dog from the deli. Ended up being 19 points! . Never again.

What? I just had beets this week in my salad not pickled just cooked (steamed) you mean they are not zero? Why?
by (7k points)
@colt7 steaming is ok but if prepared they add sugar in the pickling process, giving them points.

Pickles are free

@kobayashi only if they don’t have sugar added. Which I am guessing hers did.

I thought they were free why not.
by (4.6k points)
@ceilometer40 I’m assuming they add sugar. Like to pickles.

Ironic. I ate some yummy ones yesterday and surprised they were so low in points. They do have sugar in them. Pretty easy to make if you use an alternative sweetener. Beets are a power food and eggs are excellent protein.

I don't want to join WW but want to cut back. How would I figure out which color I need to watch?
by (3.4k points)
I am on the purple plan.
by (420 points)
@novak9 how did you decide that?
by (3.4k points)
Well at the first meeting I gathered tgat you get more zero point foods, but you have less points. I think this plan tries to get you in the mindset of eating healthy not just eating less. I may change if I get tired of only a few points to eat other things. I am just getting started. I think Jan 18 was my first weigh in this time. I became life time in I think 1985 or so, I am back for the 3rd time since being life time. It was a lot harder the other times without a scanner.

@novak9 Thanks, I guess I really have to dig a bit more.

I make my own that are zero. canned small whole beets, some of the liquid from the beets, pickling spice, cinnamon, vinegar. Bring vinegar, spices to a boil. Pour over drained beets; add Splenda or other non caloric sweetener of your choice. Put in a container with a lid and refrigerate overnight. Eat and enjoy for zero points.

I usually will scan the food for points before I eat them. No surprises that way.

I was in a restaurant and made a last minute decision to order pickled beats instead of cucumber salad as a side.

I ate dates once, knowing they weren't free, but looked it up afterwards and they were like 8! It ruined me for the day! Lol.
