I've been reading some comments about how some people use a straw for drinking their water and find they get more water in that way. I need to drink more water and was wondering if anyone knows why using a straw would help to drink more water? Just curious. I'm willing to give it a try.

I don't know about a straw, but I'm a chugger. I down a 20 oz bottle 6 times a day. Like stand there and just glug it down. If I try to sip throughout the day I never make it to the same amount.

@denton4 ok folks, here I ask again. what is the benefit of drinking all of that water? Just wanna know if all of you are on the same page
by (1.6k points)
I thought I was the only one that drank water like that, glad I'm not alone. . @pectoral my doctor recommended 100 oz a day for me. The 6 bottles a day is just easy for me to do, time-wise. It definitely helps curb my appetite as well, since I have one full bottle before each meal. My skin looks better too.

I LOVE water, I don't keep track of how much I drink, but I am constantly filling my yeti cup. I can't say that it curbs my appetite though since I have always been a water drinker, so I don't know anything different.

For me room temp water goes down easier.

Drinking room temperature water is actually better for rehydration than cold water. My nephew is a doctor and yells at me that I like cold water. So your doing better drinking the room temperature water. Not as good tasting but for rehydration reasons your on top. lol

Not sure at all! I know that some think using a straw will help prevent mouth wrinkles. and the folks at the place where I go for my colonoscopy say it will make the junk you have to drink (GoLitely (not) ) go down better. So, I am unsure why a straw will help you drink more water, but it is worth a try!

@foetid696 Straws are more likely to cause mouth wrinkles

@foetid696Bonita, I heard opposite . That a straw gives wrinkles like the position when a cig is in the mouth.

It’s just a mind trick thing. I know in general anytime I drank with a straw, it seems to go faster

There MIGHT be some little part of our brains sees using a straw equal to having a soft drink. That may be a bit far fetched, but it COUL@pervious be a possibility

I use a straw because I like my water really cold and the cold hurts my teeth. lol

FYI: All beverages count towards fluid intake except alcoholic beverages. You don't have to be a slave to water. Myself personally I drink Crystal Light all day.

I drink water with a straw. I'm for sure drinking more water. But, also drinking from a glass or bottle hurts my teeth! Straw it is for me! Try it. You can buy them at Menards for 98 cents.

When one gulps they also draw in air which makes it harder to consume more water. Sucking with a straw brings in more volume. I love my hydro flask it has really helped increase water intake.

It sure helped me. I bought some reusable silicon straws at bed bath and beyond and love them! They are large, they bend and they are long enough to fit in a large cup. They work very well for me. Worth a try!

It makes it a little easier when you have a hard time with water, also adding lemon to your water helps too. I started out with a straw and now only use them when I go to restaurants, sometimes at home if my teeth are being extra sensitive.

I am not sure why it works better for me but it does for sure. I never used to use a straw at work because we were only allowed self sealing drink containers at work do to the work we do. It helps stop spilling. I have a new position amd no long work production so I started useing a straw and could tell I was drinking much more that way.
