I recently found the podcast Weight Loss Made Real by Cookie Rosenblum. It really resonates with me. She addresses so many of the things that i have always wondered about. emotional eating, habitual overeating, how do thin women do it, self sabotage and so much more.

I was once told by a therapist that I didn't think I was worthy enough to accomplish anything that involves living my best life. He was dead on!

@longwise I totally agree! Her is to all of us that are working on conquering those useless thoughts! ❤️

@alleris I think if we are all true to ourselves. We would all be the same. I asked one of my friends that have always been (in my eyes) perfect weight, perfect self-esteem and I really thought she had her shit together. She told me she was faking that whole self-confidence thing. She beat herself up all the time. It was an eye opening conversation for me.

Using food as a coping tool is right on . Food is so self soothing, like an addiction. Dr Carl Jung says the cure for addictions is Spirituality. God Help Me!

@branch and that is why we call some foods “comfort foods”

I think Noom deals with the psychology of over eating. I've always thought that I dont have any deep dark psych issues that lead me to overeating. I just love food. it was like a hobby. not a healthy one, for sure. Some people collect stamps. I always found food much more interesting . Getting a grip on it now. lost 21 pounds. I'd like to lose another 40. The best thing that ever happened was increasing the zero point foods. I needed that extra protein of eggs and chicken. I feel like now, I can see this as a lifestyle.

@discharge I have lost 20 too. And I want to loose 40 more.

Of course - go to the american psychological association - for a place to start. Or your own health insurance plan that lists approved providers and search "eating disorders"

Yes! There is therapists for just about everything. I pulled out my Becks Diet Solution book which helps with self sabotage and other food related stuff. Its like self therapy. Lots of WW people use it. Look at reviews on Amazon and see if it is something that might help.

Too much restriction leads to problems. That's why I always make sure to fit in my favorite things. That way I dont feel deprived and go crazy

Do you think we are fighting against the marketing and advertising industry?
by (880 points)
@delrosario33 There's a national food day practically everyday. The more your aware of the marketing that surrounds you the better. Ive added them to my coupon box so I can be more aware. A good site is foodimentary. com. You can see all the food days listed there by month.

Remember, we’ve made our eating habits over a lifetime. They are ingrained in the actual circuitry of our brain. Changing habits is literally requiring the brain to change the way it works and to form new circuitry. Read Atomic Habits for an understanding of this. Bottom line, it’s not about sabotaging ourselves, it’s about dealing with the way our bodies work.

I remember watching a show years and years ago. This woman who struggled to keep weight off said that as soon as her heart and head connected (aka mind and body) the weight fell off. She was able to do this with Yoga (and mediation I suspect). We all know what to do and how to do it. yet we struggle. This same show, years later, had on people who had had gastric bypass surgery. 9/10 of those who lost the weight regained it, but not before transferring their overeating addiction to an addiction of another type. Alcohol, gambling, sex, and shoplifting. Any unresolved issues from your past or current life, need to be dealt with. Finally, there is only so much inspiration that you can ingest from social media before you put to practice to heal yourself. So soak it up, and then action. Hopefully, you can share your accomplishments with those still struggling.

Truth is the only expert in why we each do what we do is inside our own head. We just need to find where she/he is hiding. Any decent therapist should be able to help find your expert

I was struggled with eating disorders most of my life. Only to find out that people with early life eating disorders usually become binge eaters and overweight latter in life. Please don’t jump on me and post nasty comments But it’s my understanding that unless you have a real medical condition. Being overweight is all emotional. No one wants to weigh 300 lbs we all overeat for different reasons. There is no shame in see an eating disorder specialist to help you get on track. Not all therapist are the same. Look into what you need and remember if you don’t line the first person you see move on find someone else Good luck with your journey

I think there is some science behind it. When we are under stress it raises our cortisol which makes us crave sugar and fat because they are fast fuels that we can use for “fight or flight” a stress reaction. The real trick is learning to turn off those hormones when they are triggered. Some people run which is great but hard to do when you are over weight. I find getting a massage is a great way to turn off those hormones if you’ve been under prolonged stress. Try researching way to reduce cortisol

I realized a couple years ago when those who have at loss surgery have to see a psychologist thru their program. So I decided I needed to do the same because when I saw progress I would regress. I learned alot about myself. I went for a year. if you have health insurance most plans give you 52 visits a year. once a week.
by (1.2k points)
@soberminded the same kind @corsage had. she specialized in eating disorders obesity and other areas. I had BCBS at the time and I looked for a specific type of psychologist. I no longer sabatoge my successes.

Im a therapist and have dealt with it professionally although I do not specialize in this. On a personal level I began seeing my therapist 6 months ago for different reasons and have delved into my challenges with food. So valuable! I believe this is a huge reason I'm steadily doing well. XO
