Just wondering what a good noodle alternative can be for spaghetti? Ive been eating flour noodles forever and its really making the weight add on. So i know there are egg, wheat, and vegetable noodles. Which ones would be the easiest to switch over that i wont notice the difference other then color.
Just wondering what a good noodle alternative can be for spaghetti?

Nothing compares to regular pasta. So I like to mix zoodles with regular pasta to cut back
by (1.6k points)
Where can i get them? I might do that. I used to eat pasta once a month then money got tight then i started to eat it 4 times a month and i put on 20 pounds in 3 months from doing that.

@hung322 trader Joe's, Sam's club, costco all sell them frozen. I prefer the frozen ones. Just heat in a pan until fully defrosted and dump the water out as it defrosts. Once defrosted they're ready to go! Oh and dont add anything to the pan. Fresh ones get too soggy to quick

I have gotten to love zucchini noodles. Just put them in boiling water for a minute to warm them up but keep a crunch. I don't feel like i am missing pasta at all.

Spaghetti squash, or zoodles(zucchini) some stores will sell veggies that have been spiral cut for you. i have add kohlrabi noodles. yummy. stay away from the ones made with processed flour. whole wheat noodles would work, i personally don't like the texture, plus the veggie ones are usually zero point foods

Would gluten free noodles be any better? Or just the same?

On Purple Plan the Whole Wheat Noodles are 0 Points. I have switched over and am not noticing a large difference. My family is also eating them too and has not noticed much of a difference.
by (1.6k points)
Has anyone lost weight from switching over?

I have sautéed zucchini noodles in a couple sprays of olive oil and garlic for four minutes. Any longer and it gets soggy and gross. I sometimes add onions and peppers to it an have it like a primavera. I mix this with regular pasta and have a hearty helping of the veggies with spaghetti or angel hair. I have tried green lentil pasta, whole wheat pasta and brown rice pasta. The least offensive is the brown rice. I have not found a replacement that would satisfy me and make it worth the points. I am on blue. I was impressed with the whole grain pasta at Olive Garden!

If you really love grain pasta, use it but add lots of vegetables so that they are the star of the dish and the pasta is just a minor player.

Spaghetti Squash. cut in half, remove seads, season with salt/pepper (I don’t like pepper so I did salt and garlic powder) and bake for 30 minutes. Then scrape out insides and sauté in pan with some sauce and meat and a little Parmesan cheese. I topped with fat free mozzarella and it was sooo good. It doesn’t taste like squash at all!

Sounds good - simple and easy

Try mixing real noodles with zoodles or spaghetti squash to start until you get the taste for the texture. Good Luck!

Try spiralized butternut squash. Firmer texture than spaghetti squash. Also there are some low carb noodle options, check at a health food store.

Not sure why you found this funny @imidazole

Traditional pasta is eggs and flour. There are all sorts of options available. It's going to boil down (sorry about the pun) to what ends up suiting you. Spiralizer veggies (zuchini, butternut squash, etc) are 0 points. They don't need any real cooking, just a quick dip in boiling water or a quick sautee. If you want something closer to a traditional noodle there are pastas made from a variety of grains. Be careful make sure you read the label and check the points while traditional pasta is flour and eggs and maybe a bit of water the grain based pastas may have fats added or other things that could drive up the points. My suggestion is try a good quality whole wheat or whole grain pasta. As was suggested load it with a flavorful mix of veggies, and use less pasta. You can even make a 0 point red sauce to go on it too.

@buchanan look on the pasta isle at your store. Plenty of options there. or zucchini spirals.
by (970 points)
@fink McGuire Miller yes. I have. But everyone r so much more pays than the regular ones. Zucchini just doesn’t sound good
by (370 points)
I've used a vegetable peeler and made wide 'noodles' with smaller zucchini. Put zucchini in the microwave (after 'peeling') for a few minutes and top with sauce, delicious!

@marpet I probably would My hubby no

I'm sure you will notice some difference , but the flour and egg pasta is deadly for putting on weight, you have to really have to watch your points and serving size with that . I have it rarely, but the vegetable pasta is okay for what it is and i don't mind it, if you have got a decent amount of weight to lose , then you have got to make some decent changes

Honestly i spiralize my own with a spiralizer. I have used zucchini both green and yellow. Works great, texture is great as long as you don’t over cook it ( I’m talking 5 mins ish in a hot pan). I was a pasta a week kinda girl and gave it up cold turkey with my zucchini stuff. Tastes good and it’s all veggie. except the delicious sauce lol
by (2.1k points)
@lacee I got the vegetti from bed bath and beyond it was pretty decent. Like 20-30 bucks I’m sure. Honestly most are super easy to use I have the big one by them and the smaller hand one by them. Depending how many I am cooking for changes which one I use.

Spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles. and actually your local supermarket should have them pre/made for quick meal making
by (1.6k points)
Are they crunchy when cooked or is it soft after its been cooked?
by (740 points)
They definitely need seasoning but are quite tasty. although a different consistency of course. Caution do not overcook them. as you’ll have mush! May I recommend “ Jane’s Krazy Mixed-Up Seasonings? Good mixes of salt, herbs, spices and dehydrated onions or garlic. I found them at Stop and Shop in with the other seasonings. for me they kind of took the guess out of seasonings!

@lacee well once you open it up you drain them and rinse them well. Then the taste depends on what you add to them. I make my homemade spaghetti sauce with lots of flavour and you don’t really notice a difference. My husband and I love them!
