To those of you who have been successful at losing at least 50 lbs what do you think contributed most that that success? And did you just count points when it came to food choices? Did you eliminate certain foods? Stop eating a certain time of day? Etc Thanks community!

I have a loss if 65 lbs and I was successful due to all the support at WW meetings each week, self motivation and mostly daily tracking. This worked for me to succeed as a lifetime member.
by (2.1k points)
@promulgate You reach your goal weight and stay there. Can attend meetings free.
by (8.4k points)
@promulgate you no longer pay for your ap or meetings. But you need to get a voucher from WW and apply that to your active account every 2 months in order to get it free. You also have to weigh in to be active. If it’s been months or close to a year and you haven’t weighed in, you may have to pay again just to sign up but you’ll still be in the system as a lifetime member.

I've never been a big drinker and nothing is off limits in ww as long as you count it. But I've always said that if you were to poll people who lost a lot of weight they would probably say at a certain point they had to really cut back or even mostly stop drinking. Alcohol, especially beer, just doesn't sit on bodies like food calories. Just my opinion.

I have lost 90lbs, The one thing that has helped me the most is never missing a meeting. I have made friends there and they are a great support system. I'm not alone in this.

Exercise 45 min a day - gotta get moving AND food choices! Salads for lunch with olive oil and lemon dressing - lots of protein, lots of green veggies.

I was very determined tracked, weighed, measured EVERYTHING. When eating out I would plan ahead. Example : chicken fajitas, I would bring my own wraps, cheese & chips. I did eat their Salsa. Most restaurants are OK with it as long as your ordering the meal. Oh, bananas were my no no, if I even ate one a week there would be NO loss, go figure.

I think making it not about a number but being healthier has helped me. 50 lbs can take awhile to lose depending on where you are at and you will have ups and downs so just make it about being healthier and losing weight at an acceptable rate and you’ll be fine.

What I did was stay within my points and I did change my breads went to low point wraps , low fat cheese ( but if you do these get on a hair vitamin I lost so much hair ) I am on vitamins now . but I did have dinner before 7 and late night snacking was either boiled egg , or egg salad on celery , Pb2 on apple , things like that ., I gained 10 back this week but I’m working on that . don’t cut oils or fats out just measure them

I lost 110 lbs without exercise from cutting out all carbs and sugar. It took me 4 yrs to do but I am still going at it! I still have more to lose. I refuse to have gastric bypass surgery. Terrified of it.

Patience and perseverance! First and foremost, I went into it thinking that I was in for the long haul. No finish line. I have tracked diligently, and I track everything! I reached goal and lifetime last fall, and I still track everything. As for giving up anything, I’ve given up pastries and sweets. They are triggers for me that just set me up to crave more. I know there are people who can have a small portion of those foods and be satisfied, but that’s not me. It’s easier to give them up altogether

I walked My aim was 10000 steps a day even if I walked it in the house. My husband and I eat dinner at 5 PM every day and nothing but water after that unless it was an approved snack. Tracking and pre tracking including the dessert that I wanted. Be aware of what when in my mouth and mindset. I need to lose this weight. But most important

Track, go to meetings, meal plan, try new recipes so things don’t get boring! I use my weeklies but not all and in one meal not spread out. Dont overdo 0pt foods. All helped me lose 54 pounds!

Pre-Tracking for the entire day makes it easier for me to follow the plan because the “thinking” part of weight loss is done and decreases my risk of impulse decisions.
by (580 points)
@fish920 I just started doing that!

It is definately changing the food you eat. That way it is harder to gain if you hungry moments.

I followed the program. I planned what I was going to eat each day, tracked everything (even free foods), tried to stay within my daily point range so I got the blue dot, tried to drink my water and tried to walk each day. That said, I also forgave myself when I had an off day and got back on track the next morning. I lost 52 lbs four years ago, I’ve kept it off because I still follow the plan.

I count everything. Planning is essential. Learn portion control. Keep foods you can't stop eating out of the house. Cook and eat out rarely. Don't eat processed foods. I don't eat canned soup or lunch meat. My splurge is bacon. Whole grains. Gritting my teeth some days and just saying, "no". Scanning foods in the grocery store has really helped me not buy lots of things. The point are just not worth it. Also, I don't drink alcohol. Also, going to meetings! I couldn't do it on my own.
by (1.5k points)
@pol why not eat lunch meat ? I get fresh deli meat for my lunches most meat is 0 points ? Is that still considered processed ?

I lost 50 lbs. and I have kept it off for 7 years. I tracked everything! I never eliminated any foods. That’s why WW works. It’s a total lifestyle change. Eating in moderation is key. Watch serving sizes. WW definitely works! You can do it! Good luck!

Tracking everything and being honest in my tracking. Not bringing my trigger foods into the house. I resigned from the "clean plate club. " I have eliminated some foods that are not "point-worthy, " e. g., donuts, and I honestly don't miss them.

For me it was about health. My blood pressure skyrocketed and I refused to take more meds. I only count calories. I eat what I want, just not everything I want. I have to pick and choose.

Its tough to change habits. For me, I completely cut out potatoes, rice, cereal, pasta and bread. There are lots of great substitutions out there and I don't feel deprived (although when my husband toasts a cinnamon raisin bagel I want to scratch his eyes out! ). Cutting out high carb items has made me feel so much better. No more sugar highs and lows. I don't feel hungry all the time as sugar will do to your body. I don't eat anything additional after dinner. If I am desperate, I have a decaf coffee or tea only. I am not truly hungry after dinner, its habit or boredom. I haven't really been exercising which I need to focus some time on. It's not imperative for weight loss but it is great for overall health. I am less than 2 pounds to go until goal!

@doak25 I have one slice of raisin bread toasted with natural peanut butter one tablespoon with a sliced banana on top. So filling and only5 pts, it's my weekend splurge!

I totally counted all my points. just cut back on junk food. Still enjoyed pasta, potatoes etc but planned ahead for meals. For me, breakfast and lunch were easy but dinner and nighttime snacks were a challenge. Ate more fruit and veggies. I am now Lifetime and still count my points. I don’t ever feel deprived but am more aware of my choices.

I never eliminated any food just fit the foods into my points. I believe if you cut out foods when you do eat them them come back to haunt you and you put the weight back on. You really haven’t learned to eat healthier. Track, track, track!

I think it depends on how much you have to lose and your age as to how fast and easily you lose. For me tracking is key. I started when the green plan was the only plan. I lost 58# pretty easily. I figured out a way to eat my favorite foods by cutting back on other meals and also changing some ingredients to make them lower calorie. The recipes on the WW app are great. When WW changed to Freestyle I kind of lost my way. I do better when I have to account for everything I eat. Now that the green plan is available I'm back on track.
by (580 points)
@cormier I’m not worried about losing it fast I’m ok with it coming off how it does I just wanted to know this who lost a significant amount of they had just followed plan or did anything extra. Thanks for all of the advice!

I counted points, pretty much eliminated sugar(aka sweets) from my diet, ate small amounts of carbs every once in a while. I needed to lose a serious amount of weight as I was in pain all the time, knees, back, breathing, diabetic, you name it, I had it. In almost 2yrs I've lost about 128lbs. Feel 200% better. I couldn't afford to play around with myself any longer. I was desperate.

Tracking everything including ZERO point foods! Everything that goes in my mouth. Also not guessing at serving sizes. Measuring if I am not sure. Easy to think your portion is only 3 ozs but may be more than that if you weigh it! Been there! Have been lifetime since 1974 and still faithfully count points etc. Weight is 5 lbs lower than assigned goal weight in 1973 when I first started. It does work!

I lost 70 lbs and have managed to keep it off for a year now. The thing that helped the most was the app. I scan everything. another trick is to find a couple of things you really like and keep them around all the time. I still keep a corn and bean salad in the fridge at all times. I also like a broccoli and caluflower salad that I keep in the fridge. these are my go to items when I am hungry and need a quick snack and also for meals. Yes, I did have to give us a lot of foods, but I found other foods that were better for me and I have completely changed the way I eat. Not as much fast foods. Instead of ice cream every night I make a cottage cheese/pistachio pudding/pineapple salad. It hits the spot. Keep some chicken salad in the fridge. make with honey mustard instead of mayo. Great for quick sandwiches or with some Good Thin Crackers. Good Luck.

@debris love the idea of chicken salad with honey mustard
