I drank Diet Coke from the moment my feet hit the floor until I went to bed at night, this went on for 35 years. I honestly drank the equivalent of 5-6 large bottles a day. I was never without a glass or can in my hand. At one point I'd have a glass on the go in the livingroom and one on the go in the kitchen, so I'd have it right at hand. I drank nothing else at all. I quit cold turkey 5 years ago. I had a headache for 3 days but never gave in. I have not had a sip of anything in all those years. I like the carbonization so I occasionally buy a Club Soda, or a clear flavored carbonated water. It makes a difference in how you feel without all the chemicals, especially when you drink the humungous amounts like I did. It is hard but can be done, your body will thank you.

My ww leaders have 2 point chips and 2 and 3 point small bars of chocolate for sale at our meetings. A Box of 12 or so ( not exactly sure) are around 11. 00. If yours doesn’t but some on the Internet. They are great .

Don’t go cold turkey. Reduce the amount of soda you drink a day first.

Drink seltzer water it gives you the Bubbles of the soda without all the gross stuff in the soda, and don’t keep junk food in your house or around where you have someone hide it if it’s something they need.

I love Diet Coke! So I try and keep that consumption to one once a day! This usually triggers a desire for more to eat. If that happens, I try and go for a walk, or do some other distraction. If that fails, I have apple slices.

You don’t stop, which would be unrealistic. Can you start by tapering off a bit? For example, maybe 3 cans a day? I love the Ghirardelli 60% dark cocoa squares= 3 points, and nothing artificial. I think a big mistake people make is assuming they have to completely change all the foods they normally eat. Have you Googled WW Smart Points Freestyle recipes with ingredients you enjoy? Are you preparing foods you love? Consider avoiding the word fail. That’s not helpful, but hurtful to you. Also, you might add which color program you are on. Thanks!

You are over thinking this. This program is not about deprivation it is about a sustainable, happy, healthy, lifestyle. To achieve this we have to have the foods we love. We just need to figure out how to fit them into the program. Can you limit yourself to 1 soda per day? Can you limit yourself to one piece of candy per day? Track the food you love first then work the rest of your day around it. This program is not about deprivation, it is about portion control. junk is still in your life, just in smaller portions

I eat chocolate every day and am down 70 lbs. I did give up soda (even diet) as it was triggering massive sugar cravings. I drink sparkling water instead because I discovered it was really about the fizz for me. Take it one step at a time. You really need to make this a livable plan to sustain it as a lifestyle change.

Well I personally have no desire to give up diet soft drinks. I didn't get fat drinking diet soda. I'm also diabetic. My plan. My choice. So I don't need to hear how bad it is for me! I don't drink as much as I once did. I just do try push more water. Each to their own.
by (1.6k points)
@harborage I drink diet Mt Dew every day and still lose weight. ‍♀️
by (3.3k points)
@schwing33 I get that diet soft drinks probably have all kinds of chemicals. so does many other foods we eat. Unless your willing to go to strictly "clean eating". which would be a big challenge I plan on drinking diet soda. I've only cut back because I truly am trying to drink more water! Flavored water. but water!

I’d love to offer some advice if I could. I’ve been doing WW since 5/5/19. I’m 6. 8lbs from my goal. I used to drink an extraordinary amount of Coke Zero prior to joining & in the first month of joining. I started not feeling well & my body was craving sugar from the chemicals. a friend introduced me to flavored seltzer! I haven’t looked back! I buy all different brands, flavors, etc. no artificial anything in them & they are delicious. Or I drink water or unsweetened ice tea. My weight loss got better to! As far as chocolate there is a protein bar called Built Bars! A gazillion flavors, nothing artificial & on blue it’s 3pts & it’s the size of a snicker bar! Sorry for the rant just trying to help! GOOD LUCK!
by (3.3k points)
@antemundane I tried the built bars. yes they tasted good. but my digestive system doesn't care for them! Southern exit quickly! ‍♀️‍♀️‍♀️ but I know everyone has different digestive systems! Happy for anyone that can eat them!

It sounds like you are trying to give up to much at once. Don’t ! If Diet Coke is your big thing, instead of having a 6 pack have 5 after a while of just 5 go to 4. Drink water in between your diet cokes! You don’t have to give them up totally! As far as chocolate there are so many low point ways to get your chocolate and junk food fix without all the extra calories. you just have to do your research! There are so many low point snacks and recipes that taste like you are over indulging but you really aren’t! Set yourself up for success ❤️ you can do it!

@zoller I bought some Dove Dark chocolate hearts, each one has 2 points on blue. Very intense chocolate!

by (3.3k points)
@zoller yes some of our bodies don't react too kindly to some of the sugar substitutes!

Go slow on what you change. We have to learn how to eat the foods that will provide nutrition to us going forward. This is a process in trying different foods that are healthier. We have to rearrange what we love. by cooking differently and watching our portion sizes. Limiting foods with sugar. not stopping them completely but arranging them within our points for the day/week. We have to decide that we are going to do this . not for a couple of weeks but for a lifetime. however, we do this daily so we don’t have to look too far into the future. just get thru today. And forgive ourselves when we haven’t lived up to the perfect points day. You can do this as long as you don’t QUIT. JUST KEEP GOING. ❤️

Fond comparable foods that you can live with. There is sugar-free candy and chocolate. There is Coke zero. I'm a huge chips and pico girl so I do corn-good thins crackers and pick. Some times I do low pointed cheese dip or bean dips too all warmed up. When I surge I have done red wine.  Idk what you ”things” are but find suitable replacements and keep things in moderation and track!
by (3.6k points)
@byssus doesn’t Coke Zero do the same thing to your body as Diet Coke. triggering sweets cravings, not the side effects of aspartame.
by (2.9k points)
@thermogenesis I see, I can't speak for everyone, but it works for me. I am down 42 pound with only 8 to go!
by (3.6k points)
@byssus that’s great success, congratulations! I guess it all depends on why OP wants to eliminate Diet Coke.

@thermogenesis Diet Coke actually helps my cravings. I feel satisfied

I never gave up diet soda or junk food and still lost 70lbs. It’s a matter of moderation. I treat my points like a checkbook. If I have points for something I want, I eat it. If I’m broke . no points, I eat zero point foods. Now this didn’t mean I ate crap daily, but I never deprived myself of the foods I loved.

I drink Diet Coke every single day. Don't give up things you love if you're able to have them in moderation. Find some really good chocolate and make room in your points for it. There are some really good "junk food" options that actually aren't bad in points, chips being one of them. Weigh out your portion, track it, and move on. As soon as it feels like a diet, you're going to be more likely to quit since you can't live that way forever.

It’s baby steps. Limit your coke intake per day till you can give it up completely. Set a time goal for this if you can’t just quit. Chocolate also. You need to challenge yourself yourself mentally also. If you want to loose weight and keep it off it’s also mental strength you need to reach for. That’s why the meetings help. Also weight watchers makes some good chocolate items.

The first two weeks are not easy, for me anyway, while your body gets rid of the sugar, toxins, etc. But it will happen. You might try detoxing gradually and counting points for what you do eat and drink. That will help too. Also, dark chocolate is lower in points. I have one piece of Dove chocolate every day (2 smart points). It's my treat and I savor it and I was surprised that one piece could actually satisfy my chocolate craving. Hang in there and keep busy for the first two weeks. Your body WILL adjust. Best of luck to you.

I have no will power with chocolate or junk food. I have to just keep it out of my house. I eat fruit in lieu of chocolate and nuts instead of junk food. I eat out about once a week and that is when I have something sweet or not as healthy.
