I see that beans should be zero on the blue plan but when I scan canned it comes up as 4 points per serving. This is for Aldi brand great northern beans. Is it because of the juice it is in? Would it be zero if drained and rinsed?

Look at the ingredients. If sugar is added they wont be zero(for according plans). You have to check your labels.

If beans are on your list as zero, they are zero unless there are additional ingredients. The scanner goes by nutritional info. They recommend you do not scan foods that you know are 0

Dont know why people are saying dont scan. I scan everything. Many brands are points. Glory foods for example. If it's points I avoid it. Just that simple. I have had great luck doing this. I started October 17th 2018 at 459. 6 pounds. I currently weigh 303. So Im down 156. 6 pounds. Keep it up. WW works . You can do this

Well if that works for you great. But I scan everything. There is a difference between scanning and tracking. Scanning gives you a point value. Tracking adds it to your daily food intake. I scan everything. If its 0 I dont worry about tracking it. If it has points I track it. That habit has enabled me to lose 156. 9 pounds in 14 months. I will keep scanning everything and tracking all points. But thanks for the input

@jamikajamil22 for real! When I started they gave me 60 points. The first day I used 11 and was surprised but felt good about it. I then went to a meeting the next day and they said you should be pushing to get your day to turn into a blue dot. I was like huh? It made me feel like I was failing the program. There is no way I can eat 60 and lose weight. I mean 60 points would allow you to eat some pretty unhealthy things. Seriously fast food would be in reach on the daily right. So I asked the meeting leaders as well as the online counselors and I got a lot of different advice. It really bothered me for a week. I was extremely confused. And the end of the day I cracked it up to my BMI was high and maybe that just put me in a different league. So I did the same thing as you and did what felt right to me. I typically eat about 25 points give or take. It works for me and I don’t feel hungry (I have cravings yes but hunger after eating appropriately no). I have never had my day turn into a blue dot and I have come to terms with that and stopped viewing that as a failure. I told my husband yesterday that it makes me feel better as I lose weight and my allowed points falls. I know that seems crazy lol. Thanks for your encouragement! Your success inspires me.

@dode4 lol. Oh that pesky blue dot. The people in my class tease me because I have never gotten the blue dot in 14 months. That might work when I get closer to my goal which is half my start weight but If I would be getting blue dots now there is no way I would have lost that much. My doc didnt see me for a year. When I walked in last August he walked in and was so shocked he cussed. He got embarrassed and we both laughed. He said Im doing great and WW is the hands down absolutely best plan out there. Dont get discouraged. You will do great

Every food has calories, all grown food has natural sugars. Weightwatchers have allocated zero points to foods which are healthy and not too high in sugar and / or fat to encourage you to use those foods. As long as there are no ADDED sugars or fat, you should not scan the item or use the points calculator. Even though some foods are zero points, you shouldn't overdo them.

@enphytotic it's called portion control, 0pts food still has calories

All food has nutritional value -- the app doesn't know that WW has told you that plain green beans are zero. If they're canned see if anything but salt is added and if not, then they don't count.
by (1.3k points)
@exhaustless what do you mean the app doesnt know? The scanner is the WW app. It absolutely does know. It takes into consideration other ingredients during processing.
by (3.5k points)
@jamikajamil22 the app knows but no matter what you scan it’s going to show the nutritional value. If you’re on ww then you know what I mean smart mouth!

I've found that truly 0 pt foods can be scanned. But be careful with beans. They add sugar in a lot of them. You have to scan all of them to find the zeros. Sometimes people scan a 0 pt food that comes up with points. Check to see if that food says member created. That means they only entered the nutritional information. You can totally scan for 0 pt foods.

Do NOT scan zero point foods. Your scanner is looking only at the nutritional information. It does not know that WW has decided certain foods will be zero points because WW wants to encourage you to eat more protein, veggies, and fruits. Canned beans, if they do not have sugar added, are zero points on blue and purple at least (not sure about green).

They are zero but to truly make them zero, you HAVE to rinse them if they are canned!

Look at ingredients. Should just be beans, water and salt. I have to get organic for them not to have sugar. You have to watch all beans (including refried), corn, and many canned veggies.

Double check that your app is set to the appropriate program color.

I found the same thing to be true when I was shopping at Aldi’s. I chose pinto beans instead. Those are zero points.

If it is JUST the beans then its 0. check the ingredients on the can

I have found that a lot of canned beans have sugar in the ingredients.

Talk to your doctor. Im on blue. I started before colors. It told me blue was best for my eating habits when the colors came out. But I am not diabetic. Your doc can tell you.

I had the same thing happen to me the other night . I shop ALDI too looked at the ingredients and sure enough there was sugar in them . You have to look at the label every time because they put sugar in every thing !

This thread is frustrating ‍♀️ I would recommend you talk to your WW leader. My leader tells us to always check to make sure the ingredients dont include added sugar, etc. If they have added sugar to the beans it becomes points. WW designed 0 point foods assuming you are using fresh or ingredients that dont have added sugar. But honestly, do whatever is working for you. ‍♀️

Make sure you check the ingredients on the can. some vegetables have added sugar. Those will have points. If there is no added sugar, it is zero points. Don't scan those. Good luck.

Not all beans are zero when you scan them. I have learned that. Just like not all can of tomatoes are zero. Not all chicken is zero.
