Has anyone done a Mississippi pot roast without the butter? What do you use instead? Looking for a tried and true recipe for crockpot! Thanks

Yes, I added 1/2 cup red wine to deglaze the pan after searing the beef

@tertia40 I’ve made it without the butter and didn’t add anything. Came out fine. a little dry though. Next time I am going to try adding a half can of beef broth. Side note. did you see the recipe for Mississippi Chicken? Swap beef for chicken breast and add half can of chicken broth. DELICIOUS!

@becharm in a crockpot. I use brisket (calls for bottom round I believe), package of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing mix, package of McCormick Au Jus mix, 5-6 pepperoncini peppers. Recipe calls for a stick of butter (! ) but I’ve used a half stick or none. I also add a splash of the pepper juice. I am going to try adding beef broth instead of the butter just to increase moisture. I cook it on low for 8 hours. Truly delicious!

Side note. not about butter. I substituted the dry onion mix with a packet of Au Jus, dry and it's awesome!
