Question - My doctor suggested the generic form of Cymbalta for my worsening joint pain due to a congenital joint issue. It's gotten worse as I age. I am hesitant to take it because I thought these types of meds might cause weight gain, which is opposite of what I'm trying to do. Has anyone else used this medicine and still been able to lose weight on the WW plan too? I think if I could get the pain under control, I might be able to move a little more which will help. However, I don't want to make it any harder to lose.

I’m currently on the generic Cymbalta. One of the side effects is actually weight loss. I have lost weight on it. But I also strongly suggest getting a therapist as it is an antidepressant.

@camorra. I had better luck with weight loss and nerve pain with Topamax.
by (510 points)
Topamax has its own list of side effects and I gave my account. Not yours. And honestly, Facebook isn’t where anyone should be getting medical advice because we don’t know the full reason that the doctor is suggesting it.

I’m on it and have lost weight. No issues. My pain is nerve related from a rare spinal condition but it took my leg pain from an 8 to a 2. It’s worth a try but you must taper down and not just stop taking it if you choose to stop.

I take Simponi injections every two months for severe RA. pills did not work at all. The pills nor injections cause weight gain or interfere with weight loss. just my mind does

I am a nurse and a former pharma rep. I went through a lot of pain and depression last year. Cymbalta is the drug I launched my pharma career with and I would hear testimony after testimony about how it saved peoples' lives. Matter of fact, both of my sisters are on it and swear by it. Well. let me tell you I will never try it again. I feel lucky to be alive. 3 weeks after starting It, I woke in the middle of the night with chest pains, the inability to urinate which I perceived to be kidneys shutting down. Nevertheless, I have started naturopathic remedies and I feel like a new person. ❤

That’s unusual for joint pain. I took Mobic for joint pain for years and recently changed to Celebrex. They are both NSAIDs.

I’ve been on Duloxitine (generic for Cymbalta) for years, as has my husband. No issues for either of us. He has lost 28 lbs since the beginning of January and I have lost 18 lbs. Don’t let all of these stories scare you. Try it and see how YOU do! Good luck.

Have you thought about cutting out gluten from your diet? I did bc if stomach problems and my joint pain went away. I didn’t even realize that was a symptom. It may not be the cause of yours but it’s something to think about.

It's congenital. Do both. The more weight u lose the less meds u will have to take for relief. Don't suffer.

I have an auto immune disease as well. I take an ssri, similar. There is a huge impact on pain vs the perception of pain. That’s why they are recommended for pain. You may gain some weight in the first 2 months and or so, but if you stay on ww you won’t. The clinical studies for most ssri and snri show both weight loss and weight gain.

Today you can get the CBD oil just about any store . Even my gas station has it. Question is where do you get your CBD oil from ? I want to try it .
by (3.5k points)
@scilicet Gonzalez I get it at our local pharmacy and also have bought it in a health food store. Its expensive but you put a few drops under your tongue. it lasts a long time.

I know nothing about this particular drug but if it controls pain you are able to do more (walk, exercise, ride a bike, etc) and that done regularly will help control weight gain.

I am using it & it has helped me immensely. I have lupus & arthritis. I take it, plaquenil, & an occasional tylenol. I have actually lost about 12-18 pounds depending on when I weigh. I feel more like moving. If you take it the main thing to remember is don't stop it without tapering down!

They are all quick to flip you a pill. See a rheumatologist first to work you up to find the exact reason for your joint pain. I’m happy I did. My primary kept telling me it was something completely different. I discovered an autoimmune disorder and now it is managed by the correct medication. This was life changing.

Is this real! What’s the point of losing weight if you can’t move and have pain? How much weight do you think it will make you gain. Take your meds! It’s important
