If one was to sign up for WW is the 1st grocery bill huge? Is it hard to get started and organized?

No. You eat regular food and learn how to control portions. Many foods have a zero point so you never go hungry. Give it a try. You’ll be pleasantly surprised at how simple it can be.

It depends on the person. What they want to eat, how they want to eat, the plan their on, what they already have in their house.

My groceries haven’t changed much. No junk foods and extra vegetables and fruit

I think it depends on your current eating habits. More fresh veges are encouraged, and you might start making other choices with types of foods you eat. Nothing is “illegal” but I’ve learned what my trigger foods are and now avoid buying them.

@cate84 thank you it just seems overwhelming

@reichstag, just plan. Planning ahead helps a lot. Lots of recipes online to help you. And we are here.

Your choice. I went through my cupboards, scanned what I had, and wrote points per serving on the container with a pen. Frozen chicken and fish, frozen veggies and fruits are usually less expensive than fresh.

Not too bad. Most expensive is chicken breasts and lots of Greek yogurt and eggs. Maybe spray butter. It’s $7. 99 in Alberta canada. Most everything else is just regular groceries. Depends on your plan also iguess

Bags of snacks and cookies are more expensive than a bag of apples or carrots.

It just depends on what you choose as your staple items really

Use what you eat. You can always adjust things to your liking

I eat what I have in my house. I track everything I put in my mouth. I didn’t buy anything special in my first shop, what I did do was watch for lean meat, fat free or low fat products. I make conscious decisions. I don’t buy things I know are not good for me. I started @knucklebone 11, to date I’m down 31. 8 pounds. You can do it! Good luck!

I think my grocery bill actually went down. I do meal planning and make a list from the meals that were planned.

I also plan in fresh fruit and veggies. I rarely by chips, candy, or other junk food because that is not on the list.

Mine went down because I found myself eating more left overs

It took me a few days to get the hang of the tracker. I did not buy any of the special WW foods (expensive). Instead, I use regular grocery store food and watch the points carefully. Right now, with the pandemic, you may not have time (or want to) to wander through the store with the barcode reader, so feel free to ask for brand names and such that are low in points.

I think my bill goes a bit further because I'm buying more ingredients rather than processed goods.

Look at 0 list and choose a few things that you like. I always have eggs, chicken breast, fish/shrimp and a few veggies/fruit. Also have nonfat Greek yogurt on hand. Watch the stores sales and buy what’s cheap You’re not buying chips, ice cream, candy

No not if you buy for the week, and if your buying pantry items etc they last awhile so you dont buy that every shop.

Are most of you paying ww members? I’m on the fence. Been struggling for years.
by (23.4k points)
@azarcon yes I am online and go to the meetings. Right now they are only doing virtual meetings, but the meetings really help for encouragement and accountability.
by (18.4k points)
@azarcon I was a paying member. Now I’m proud to say over 3 years at goal & lifetime. (Once your lifetime as long as you stay at goal it is free! ) Still attend meetings. Doing virtual right now. My WW family. My support system. They gave me the tools to live a healthier life. Best decision I’ve made for myself.

@azarcon I am only a digital member as I live to far from a big centre to normally attend meeting. I absolutely love the app and find it keeps me accountable for what I eat. This group is great for support and answering any questions. I'm fairly new as well, I was on once before and it worked so good I'm back.

I bought some things I needed but worked in what I had and I am still eating meals I had frozen, chili and things. I do digital only and have lost 23lbs since mid Jan. Digital is less expensive and I like it as meetings here are at a bad time for me.

I'm a picky eater. I picked what I like from the grocery list on ww and went from there. Processed foods are a LOT more expensive than fresh and frozen foods that are healthy. ALSO, dont be fooled by lean cuisine meals etc. their sodium content is HIGH. jmho

I’ve learned that because I eat SO much less, my foods last longer so I actually don’t need nearly as much= lower grocery bill!

I am eating much more healthy than I was before. I eat primarily eat chicken, fish, beef, fruits, vegetables, eggs, nonfat greek yogurt, cottage cheese and string cheese. I do have WW chocolate protein bars and WW chips on hand if I want something else.

But once you wrap your head around the healthy foods versus the junk food it will just be your new normal

I definitely spent more the first month because I had to change a lot of what I normally was buying, After that it leveled out and I spend about the same as I always did on groceries (just different items than before).

Best idea is to get less the first few times you go. Staples like oatmeal, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, fresh veggies and fruit, chicken, and fish. Canned things like FF chicken broth, canned tomatoes, corn. Scan all the cans to detect hidden sugars and fat. As you go along, you will see other things in posts you want to try and the point values and how they use them. You can add them gradually.

No, real food isn't expensive for the most part but it does take some getting use to and, in my case, learning to make recipes with lighter ingredients.

No, I shop for real food. I have not bought WW products. I realize you will need time to adjust to the WW lifestyle but, all in all, I have not spent more at the grocery store but I have changed some products. You will be OK.

No it’s what you are buying. Think about the fact that you may spend $1 to $1. 50 per Apple which might sound like a lot except for the fact that those chocolate bars cost a couple $ and we eat multiples lol. So healthy eating in my opinion is not expensive.
