How bad are homemade nuggets  I am using Panko, an egg, and one chicken cutlet. I eat it with cauliflower crackers, cauliflower rice, and no sauce. I’m having a really hard time on this journey because I’m so picky. I was eating fast food 2x a day and I’d sit down at a restaurant every night. I figured these few changes, giving up pop, dropping eating out all together, would help me shed some pounds. Any insight? I get 23 on blue.

I always used shake and bake for my homemade nuggets. Not a lot of breading and baked in the oven

Pack some seasonings into your Panko mix and season the chicken ahead of time to boost the flavour

Am I going to gain weight though by consistently eating these? I absolutely love them and I struggle with just plain chicken. I always season the Panko and I use different seasonings so it’s never like it’s the same thing. I’m just a total crappy food eater and I’m trying to do my best to find healthy alternatives to the things I have always eaten. I want to vomit when I eat veggies

If you count the points in what you are making and stay within your 23 per day, you will lose weight. You can eat chicken every day.

@competency I’ve been on weight watchers since last summer! I lost lots of weight, gained most when I moved away from my parents and their cooking, and as a single mom it’s fast food like crazy. I started back up about a week ago and have cut back on all and made that my first purchase. So easy to cook and just walk away!

@argilliferous2258 They are better choice than fast food and going to restaurant every night.

@argilliferous2258 I like how you are conscious of what you think may not be a good choice (the chicken nuggets). But you also realize you’ve given up many other things. So while Panko Chicken nuggets may not be a “great” choice, you are giving up so many other things, I’d keep that for a while because it gives you joy. I’d also use the recipe calculator to determine the actual points and you will have your answer. Panko and regular breadcrumbs are each 3 points per 1/4 cup. For me personally, I’d be okay with grilled chicken nuggets (Chick Fil A for the win! ), but that’s me. I’d save those points for a full piece of bread or pasta. That’s the beauty of this plan. You get to choose as long as you stay within the parameters. It’s really hard to make huge changes, so I think you are doing wonderful with the changes you’ve made so far. I do think long term, you will need to incorporate more vegetables, so maybe try a goal of trying a new food each week.

@argilliferous2258 And doing WW will be so much better for you kids. Fast food is not healthy for them and is teaching them bad habits. I can't imagine how you can go out to eat all the time with kids. I know time is an issue, but there a lots of quick meals you can make.

There is a recipe on the app and ww website called southern oven fried chicken. And it’s made with corn flakes crumbs. It’s AMAZING!

@petroglyph I did see that one! It’s on my list!

@argilliferous2258 it’s so good! You don’t need the buttermilk either. I’ve used eggs instead and it’s just as good. I buy thin cut chicken breasts (or regular ones and cut them in half) and pound them out. So tender and just like restaurant chicken.

@petroglyph I do the same way then I cook them in the air fryer they come out yummy

I made chicken strips in the air fryer using the parmesan crusted shake and bake the other night and they were DELISH! Even my husband and toddler came back for seconds.

I love the nuggets and have them in salad. Tonight I made chicken Marsala with spinach, mushrooms. And I made zucchini sticks in the air fryer angling with the nuggets

I use Southern Baked coating mix from Epicure. No eggs, no oil, nothing extra required. It can coat about 4-5 chicken breast, so I don’t use an entire package at a time. I just put a little in a ziplock bag and save the rest. It’s a Canadian company, but you can order online, or with any of their consultants. They make a ton of different spice blends and dip mixes. All of them are low or no points.

@fingerstall how many points is the epicure? My friend at work is a consultant and if I can save points I may order in bulk.
by (1.3k points)
@veneration the whole package will coat 8 5oz chicken breasts. The whole package is 8 points. On green it works out to 3 points per serving
by (5.3k points)
@fingerstall on blue that works out to 1 pt! Chicken is free. Definitely hitting her up right now. Thanks!

Can use pork rinds for breading, lower points, and also smashed cereal like cornflakes. Be like Daniel Tiger, and try something new because it might taste good! Or at least that is what my kids say. :D

Try coating the chicken strips with 0% fat Greek yogurt and then coat them in breadcrumbs - crushed cornflakes- oats cook in the oven They would be 0 point with the oat covered ones you would only have to point the breadcrumbs and th cornflakes ones if you like you could add spices with the coating
