Why would you weigh yourself everyday
by (1.2k points)
@forgat to gather enough data points to calculate a weekly average.
by (1.8k points)
@cracow I weigh myself once a week. I’m not averaging my weight based on daily weigh ins. Whatever works for you.
by (1.2k points)
You asked why someone would do that. I answered. I wasn’t judging anyone’s weighing schedule.

Once a week is a better measure- weight fluctuates too much daily. I don’t remember daily ever being recommended.

I weigh daily. I don’t get discouraged if it varies a half a pound here and there, I’ve done it long enough to know that happens.

I prefer the least amount possible. It always sends me into a downward spiral if I gain.

Do not weigh yourself every day if it will set your mood for the day.

Depends on you. For me I get depressed even though we all know your weight fluctuates slightly daily. I can't. I am the type that if I have 1 bad day I eat whatever until next weigh in. I can't get out of that mentality.

I weigh every day. Keeps me on track. It also tells me what I eat (sodium) affects my weight.

For some perhaps. Personally, I find it motivating.

No, I do it to make sure I'm where I need to be. It's just important to understand that your body can have small fluctuations in weight from day to day, so you can't see it is a true gain or loss. Usually what I'll do is I'll weigh in every day, and if I either lose and stay within the new weight for a day or 2, it's a true loss. Same thing with gain. If I go up and stay there (or gain more) it's a true gain and I need to change something. It also helps to catch possible plateaus early.

@tagliatelle i do the same

Yes, once a week is better.

For me weighing everyday can get discouraging if the scale doesnt move the way I think it should or if I temp. gain from my period or from a salty meal. It messes too much with my head and then I get discouraged and want to quit. Once a week at least for now is better for me. Maybe once I'm closer to my goal or at my goal I can weigh more but for now once a week is good for me.

I have kept a spreadsheet on computer for 5 years and first thing I do is record my weight. It works for me to do my best staying at GW but when I was losing, only weighed on WW day.

Depends on the person. This is a question more for you and your mind. Can you deal of the weight goes up and understand that it is fluctuation? If you can’t, then it might not be a good idea. Maybe only 2 times a week.

For me it gives me motivation for the day to at least try to plan good meals!

I weigh myself every day and that helps keep me on track. I’ve learned though not to get freaked out if I go up a little bit one day because sometimes salty foods can do that to us.

Not necessarily - depends on the person. I don't weigh everyday. When I do it's to make me more aware so I can make better choices that day or it's for weigh in purposes so I can enter the number into my WW app.

I don't weigh everyday , because it consumes you when you worry about it so much , I weight a couple times a week to keep trac, but it depends on the person & your own mindset

For me it’s discouraging and upsets me. I have deep rooted food issues & the scale is hard for me to look at still. Weekly is better for me.

I weigh myself every day. I don’t get upset with the daily fluctuations. I record my weight on the same day each week (Wednesday). It really keeps me in the game. I can review my tracking to see what I did good or bad and adjust the day accordingly. Doesn’t work for everyone but it does for me.

For me, I haven't been weighting myself very much during this. I have been good about sticking to plan and drinking tons of water. But, if I get on the scale and I haven't lost or have stayed about the same, I feel bad and then don't have my usual distractions of going to work, got out to help me get over it. I'm just working at home all day with a kitchen stocked with food! And, if I have had a loss, I tend to ease up on plan in celebration. I have put the scale on the top shelf of my closet and am just trying to do the best I can. It is what is working for me.

+96 votes
by (6.1k points)
I think you need to be sensible about it especially if you have been on track. For example, if you are retaining water due your menstrual cycle you know that you can put on anywhere from 5-10lbs prior. Or if you haven't gone #2 yet you know that makes a difference as well. So, stop weight yourself everyday your weight fluctuates everyday.

I weigh every morning but i dont give it too much clout. youre going to have small fluctuations thats norm. it does make me feel better to see the number going down but it doesnt ruin my day if it goes up. just reminds me to drink my water and track better that day

For some people it can stress them out and discourage them, others it can become an obsession, and some it keeps accountable Some do well others dont when weighing in daily. Depends on your kinda mindset

It can be. It really all depends on you. You asking this question makes me think that you have suffered before and if you aren't putting yourself all into weight watchers and the scale keeps going up you could get depressed. I know I wouldn't want to weigh myself everyday but like I said it all depends on you.

I weigh myself every 10 days. It gives the body time to adjust and give you an accurate reading. Not so much pressure but it still keeps you on track of your progress

I do need daily weighs Ins to stay accountable, knowing there are natural fluctuations in weight from day to day. It helps me stay away from processed foods which makes me retain water and also causes inflammation. Also makes me very aware of how cardio exercise helps the scale move in the right direction.

@staggers863 Huberty Johnson I do the same and for the same reason as you.

It lead to bulimia and anorexia for me years ago I do not keep a scale in my home they are a trigger for me. I do my weigh ins at my doctors office. But others seem to do fine some become obsessive without even realizing. If your world revolves around the scale like mine did, then you have a problem. Just my opinion from my experience. Im sure others out there deal fine with it.

It can. but I find it helpful. It helps me to see if I'm staying on track. but always remember it's beyond the scale. check on how you feel overall. more energy, clothes fit different, losing inches etc. Stay positive. You didnt gain it all over night and you wont lose it that way either! Weekly weigh in is best to see overall results.
