Those that have lost over 50lbs on here how is your skin? Is it gone back to shape or need surgery? What did you do to get back to normal?

I'm 73 years old, and I've lost 40. I know my skin will NOT go back to the way it was before. It's too old and has lost its elasticity. But I'm okay with it. I'd rather be this way than heavy like before.

@apthorp Plus the dangers of any surgery far outweigh the benefits of looking 30 years younger.
by (16.5k points)
@venireman I’ve had both knees replaced, and I don’t want to chance any infection!

There are a few people I know personally that have contracted MRSA, usually during a rehab stay. For the rest of their life (if they survived) they have to let ANY medical person, even a dentist, know that they carry the virus still in them. They are forever carriers. :(

I’ve lost 200 pounds. My best advice is to dry brush, wear compression, and stay hydrated. Collagen helps too according to some of my friends who have had extreme weight loss. I didn’t use it myself but I did everything else. Age does play a role on things (I’m 26) but doing these things will help.
by (2.6k points)
@jamima35 what do you mean by dry brush?
by (28k points)
@polemist Haggard Dailey dry brushing is a technique where you use a skin brush or a hair brush and brush your skin in the direction away from your belly button. It increases circulation which in turn leads to more collagen production and less loose skin.

@jamima35 thanks. I had no idea

@polemist Haggard Dailey no problem ☺️

@jamima35 I really like this pic. I see a lot of strength and confidence. Ever think of running for President?

Work out to build muscle. Be sure to keep elasticity with keeping with calcium supplements. Not a perfect cure. Be proud of the skin, wear it like a warrior.

I'm actually worried about this. I'm 41. And I want to lose 80 pounds but I think about this often.

I am 70 and have lost 130 pounds. I exercised all of the time but I had to have surgery. I got tired of my stomach flopping when I walked up and down the stairs.

I am 58 and lost about 70 lbs. I feel good but look pretty saggy and jiggly. I’m okay with it until people mention my weight loss then ask if that is a good or bad thing. (I. e. am I sick)
by (20.6k points)
@threadfin Whenever I run into someone I haven’t seen in a while, they mention the weight loss and then, almost in a whisper, ask if I’m ok. I’m 70. I think it’s because I’m older. As far as loose & jiggly skin, it’s the price we pay for all those years of stretched skin. I really try not to pay any attention to it. As soon as the weather gets warm enough, I’m going sleeveless!

I’ll need surgery on my stomach and a lift for my breasts for sure. My face is sagging, too. I’m 38 but I can tell the sag in the jowls after weight loss. Might look into fat transfer for that

I’ve lost almost 80 between the age of 36 and 37 then another 40 at age 46. My tummy and thighs are the worst. Arms not terrible. Fat girl slim cream helps with skins hydration and elasticity.

I’m 42. Lost 77 lbs so far. My skin is saggy on my lower abdomen, inner thighs, back of my legs under my butt, my arms and my boobs. I’m not going to undergo any surgeries though. I do some weight training here and there but I’d rather have what I have now vs the extra weight so I don’t stress too much about it.

@thirzia I bet there will be some improvement over time. Job well done!

I’m 58 and have lost 250 and the saggy skin does suck! It’s like wow I look freakin amazing when I see myself in the mirror in these new clothes I bought! And then I take them off and I see my tummy. and arms and saggy skin on my legs. But don’t worry it will get better. Work at it. No matter what you gotta feel better right? Just wish there was an easier way, I mean we worked so so hard!

I lost 90lbs last year and am 37. I don't have saggy skin besides slightly in my very inner upper thighs. My skin is softer than it used to be in some spots (upper arms, belly, butt) and wrinkles when I squish it but I will take that any day over the extra 90 lbs I was carrying, so please don't let the idea of looser skin scare you off from trying to lose more. Good luck!

I really try to keep it moisturized well. I layer on the lotions all over. So now it’s wrinkled, saggy and soft!

It’s all about genetics and state of your skin. Some get lucky and don’t have issues. Reality is it will be loose. I’ll take that over the weight any day

The older you are & the heavier you are. the harder it is. I lost 70 lbs in my 30’s no problem. Well gained it all back & now it isn’t going to be near as easy or pretty

I reached goal at age 69, lost 90 pounds. In a bathing suit I look like a Shar-Pei.  But it looks better than all the fat I don't have anymore.

I have bye-bye arms. And my quads are droopy where it looks like I have a much longer ass. and a little belly pooch. While it’s not the tight firm body I wanted, I’m also 45 years old and much healthier than I was. I’m happy and wear my jiggle with pride.
by (4.1k points)
@exorbitant my sister and I call bye bye arms Mozerosky Arms because we are Jewish and it just seems right lol! I definitely have them!
by (26.6k points)
@rubious I’ve never heard that term. My dad was Jewish but my mom wasn’t and my dad was very lax.
by (4.1k points)
@exorbitant no we just made it up to describe the arms of older Jewish grandmother's arms when we were teenagers. Now we have them too

Depends on how big you got and how much you loose but loose skin is much better than carrying all that weight around

by (24.5k points)
It depends on your age as well as the amount lost. I don’t think it will ever go back completely.

I have been overweight most of my life and have now lost 75 lbs so the tummy and breasts definitely have extra skin but I'm finding that the more muscle I build and toning excercises I do the more it's going away and tightening up. I would reccomend getting into strength building excercises

So far, mines not too bad. I plan to start weights in the next couple of weeks. Has anyone tried fasting? Through a process called autophagy, , skin tightens up. I’m planning to throw intermittent fasting into the mix when I start hitting regular plateaus. Would love to hear from anyone who is using fasting and whether it’s helping the skin. I think an added bonus of intermittent fasting will be easier maintenance.

@infix I hate to tell you this, but skin changes happen in Sr citizens. I have not taken the skin thing on as a battle. There are lotions that help somewhat but when all is said & done, IAM FREAKEN OLD! And I am so lucky to be!
by (3.7k points)
@judaica9474 totally get what you’re saying. . Those of us who are “more mature” are going to have a harder time of it. I figure it’s a great motivation for doing strength training, which will help a lot of things whether it helps tighten skin or not.
by (29.5k points)
@infix. I have tried every exercise over the y. For me, yoga tones the best along w stamina & FLEXABILITY. I can take it w/ me where ever I go w no props. How fortunate we are to have options to choose from & they all work!

I am 61 and have lost about 90 lbs and my skin is flabby particularly around my waist, thighs and under my arms. No amount of exercise is going to help. Decided to put up with it as healthier since the weight lose

I do a 16/8 fast and it helps along with a lot of water to retain moisture and elasticity. And for good measure I drink collagen once a day to bring moisture to the surface. I'm 65 and really I've earned my wrinkles and flabby but not too bad skin.

I’ve lost 25 lbs so far and I expect loose skin. Something that totally surprised me, though, are these huge bags under my eyes that I never had before. It’s like my cheeks are melting. I’m still searching for a product that will firm up eye bags.
by (750 points)
Anne-@julijulia901 Hancock I have never tried it but heard preparation h tightens the skin under your eyelid
