My baby is due soon, and I'm wondering if there's a plan that's best to do while breastfeeding. Anyone have any advice?

A nice plain food diet. Low in fat, high in protein. Try to stay away from chocolate, babies don’t process it well.

@analogical Where on earth did you hear this? Completely untrue!
by (2.1k points)
@conventicle because when I was breast feeding chocolate upset her tummy.
by (230 points)
@analogical Thats your personal experience and your own conclusion, no evidence that eating chocolate affects breastmilk

@conventicle everything you eat affects breast milk.

Guys there is no need whatsoever to have any sort of a 'special diet' during breastfeeding'. This is complete nonsense and not backed up by any of the health agencies or leaders in breastfeeding research including Jack Newman, Kellymom, The Breastfeeding Network, WHO, CDC to name a few. Obviously like anything, everything should be in moderation, namely caffeine, alcohol, mercury containing fish and dairy if infant shows CMPA. There is zero evidence to suggest that a breastfeeding mother needs to stay on a special type of diet. Part of the reason there are such poor breast feeding rates is because of non evidence based infornation like this being shared on such a big platform. The OP should link in with her weight watchers class leader and a breastfeeding professional if she needs advice around breastfeeding and nutrition.

@analogical Absolutely false! You do not have to adhere to any sort of diet when breastfeeding. I would love to see any reliable links you can post that supports your claims that breastfeeding mothers should be on a diet that you have described?

@groceries she asked for opinions of what we thought was a good breast feeding diet! In my opinion, from breast feeding my daughters, a plain diet was best. Nothing with a lot of spice, nothing that had chocolate! You can all bite me!

I’m currently breastfeeding and my nutritionist said low carb is okay but don’t mess with low fat and get plenty of protein. Babies need fat in breast milk!

Also dark chocolate is just fine! Excess processed sugars can make baby a tad bit gassy but nothing that is going to seriously hurt your babe.

Just remember to consume healthy fats and stay away from saturated fats.

I've done the blue plan while breastfeeding with great success (50 pounds after 1 birth , 60 after another). I just made sure to have plenty of 0 point foods between meals, like fruits, veggies, and eggs. Plus lots of water. Congratulations on the baby!

I waited until 8 weeks postpartum to get serious about tracking with my last pregnancy, just to give my milk supply time to adjust.

WW have an adapted plan for breastfeeding mums. You just get extra points basically. I think you need to wait 6 weeks from birth then you are good to go.

U burn an extra 500 calories while breast feeding. Just try to eat balanced and healthy meals. And try to just be consistant in doing small amount of exercise, if only walking 30mins and do a lot of stretching. Thats just good as your body and back takes stress nursing

Consult your doctor or lactating person for these questions however, spicy and excessive amounts of caffeine upset my babies stomachs.

I also had great success on the blue plan! I got 41 points a day and used all my daily and weekly points, and hit my goal of 40lbs lost in about 9 months. Make sure you eat lots of healthy fats, as well as carbs! Your body needs them to make milk

Eat healthy for the baby and you. Feed or pump every 2 hours even if you dont have much milk in first 2 weeks. You eat every 2 hours healthy protein and acid that way you can get more milk. How much milk you pump and feed that much you loose weight. In 6 six month feeding I lost everything I gained through pregnancy

You need to eat a healthy diet and continue to take your. Prenatal vitamin. Do not worry during this time. Your baby and your body need nutrients.

I would guess purple because it geared towards more healthy eating and less losing weight, but when you sign up for WW it should ask you if you are breastfeeding, in which case it should set your points accordingly.
