I start my days at midnight (when I track). So, if I eat something at 1 am, I'll track it on the new day.

As long as you do it the same way all the time - it doesn't matter.

My day starts at midnight. No matter what. I do it that way because I'm a 3rd shift worker

For me (and I work overnights) anything eaten after midnight starts the next day. I restart my tracking at midnight.

The next day! Also, don’t eat after midnight!
by (9.2k points)
@overexert some people work third shift so even though it’s 1 am it’s their 1 pm.
by (11.4k points)
@ivied I used to work from 11-4am- not easy!
by (9.2k points)
@overexert I used to do 10 p to 7 a. You are not kidding that it’s not easy.

For me, If I’m still awake it’s still the same day in my opinion. unless you‘re a shift worker. The scale will figure it out either way so whatever works for you!
by (6.1k points)
@carmel that’s how I approach it too. The day ends when I go to sleep

I’m a night shift worker But even if I wasn’t After 12 midnight is a new day And I’ve lost 35lbs so it still works. I eat a slice of toast, a piece of fruit and a small 90 calorie drink between 12-1am. Then breakfast around 4-5am. Lunch 12-1 and dinner 5-6pm. Apple and water at 10pm
by (2.2k points)
@unwatched when do you sleep? I work same hours 12-8. I sleep from 10/11am to 5/6pm. I’m not up for lunch
by (18.1k points)
@taimi, I make it home at 8:30 am. I shower then go to bed. I don’t wake up until about 12 noon or 1 pm. I work 12 hr shifts times three days. It’s ok for me to eat small at work because I’m up walking  the unit and doing physical things.
by (2.2k points)
@unwatched wow! You don’t get much sleep. I guess if it’s been working for you you can’t go wrong. Keep it up.
by (18.1k points)
@taimi, after I eat my lunch I go for a walk then go back to bed until like 5pm. So I’m getting about 6- 7 hrs on the days I have to work my night shift
by (2.2k points)
@unwatched maybe I should try something like yah because I don’t sleep thru, I stay in bed though and try to go back to sleep. Maybe if I get up and go for walk have dinner then go back to sleep for a while that might be better
by (18.1k points)
@taimi , yeah it doesn’t hurt to try and see if it works. I love working night shift. At my job there’s less food temptations and less people which I like.
by (2.2k points)
@unwatched glad to chat with another night shift worker. I agree, nightshirt is awesome.
by (9.5k points)
@unwatched When do u sleep? I also work overnights. Lost 40 lbs but struggling lately. My last meal is around noon. Then I have a snack st midnight. My breakfast at 400am.
by (18.1k points)
@southdown3287 I sleep  after my shower  before 9am. I work 7pm to 7:30 am. So I eat my dinner between 5-6pm. At 10pm I eat an apple and drink water with sliced lemon  After midnight is a new day for me so I can have a slice of whole wheat toast, a few strawberries and my favorite mini Dr Pepper soda(90 calories). I always eat my breakfast between 4-5am while at work. I don’t want to eat once I’m home in the morning then go to bed. That cause weight gain. I wake up by 12-1pm, eat my lunch of some sort then go for an hour walk. Once back I go back to bed until 5pm. If I have a really tiring night and I’m exhausted from work I might not be able to go for my walk and sleep straight through. But usually my night shift job is smooth

I track from the time I wake up to the time I go to bed. If I woke up and eat in the middle of the night I would count it as the next day if it was after midnight. But if I was still awake and then ate after midnight I would count it as today. Normally i would say midnight to midnight. But say it is New Years Eve, I am out, it is after midnight I count it as the Eve, not the Day. I dont count the next day until I've slept

Use a food diary. Are you a night shifter?
by (590 points)
@roughneck no.
by (1.4k points)
@epispastic Have you tried fasting after dinner?
by (590 points)
@roughneck I have to be careful about that due to hypoglycemia

I track it for whatever day it’s on

My day is from when I wake up until when I go to sleep. Since I work 3pm-1am, I track everything on the same day. So like yesterday was Friday. When I got home, at 1:15am, I had my egg burrito and tracked it on Friday. That makes more sense in my mind.
by (28k points)
But let’s say I wake up from sleep in the middle of the night hungry, I track that on the next day, because I’ve already gone to bed. If that makes any sort of sense lol
by (480 points)
I work 7p to 7a. I use the paper trackers or make my own and count everything I eat from when I get up until I go to bed. It works for me.
by (28k points)
@diller in the app, you can click onto the day before and still add or delete things. So you don’t have to use paper if you don’t want to.
by (2.1k points)
@jamima35 Makes perfect sense to me. That’s exactly how I do it. From when I wake up until when I go to bed for the night it’s on one day. No matter what time it is. But if I go to bed at 1 AM and wake up at 4 AM and just need a little snack, it goes on the next day
by (480 points)
@jamima35 Thank you for the info. I'll try the app again.

If I had points from the prior day I'd use the day before. If I was already at my max I'd put it on the next day.

by (7.3k points)
I always use sleeping as the point, meaning if I eat it before I have slept it goes on the previous day if I eat it after I wake up from sleeping and goes on the next day
by (400 points)
@bemire34 that’s a good rule of thumb.

After midnight I count as next day. But it doesn’t really matter as long as you are consistent with a cut off time.

I work over night so I track midnight to midnight. After 12 am I track with app. Easier that way. 1 am I eat fruit for snack 4 am a boiled egg for snack 7am I eat breakfast 7pm I eat lunch at 11 pm I eat dinner.

The nice part about WW it’s a 24 hour cycle you decide. I have many friends that start their day with dinner It works great

Based upon my work schedule, when I worked nights, if I was still up, I'd count after midnight as the same day. Now, I work days, so I track after midnight as the next day. I agree, be consistent and track right away, so there's no food memory loss. I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. The struggle is real!

I track in between sleeps, So if I eat before I go to bed for the night, regardless of whether it's after midnight, it's part of the day I just had. I start tracking the next day when I wake up for the day.

WW is based on a 24 hour program according to the group leader at my workshop. So from 6am to 6am counts for all of the points you eat in that time period.
