Why is fruit zero points if it has so much sugar?

I think the idea is that it is filling, and I'd imagine few people got overweight by eating too much fruit. I think they consider a lot more factors than sugar and calories and fat when determining points. Apples are definitely not my issue, lol!

@prose202 stay away from grapes  and bananas

I think it should start costing points if you overindulge, honestly. Like my one apple a day is great, but my hubby will down an entire pineapple, mango, and bag of grapes and then wonder why the scale isn’t moving. 0 points or not- that’s a lot! Still a better snack than cookies though!

I was comparing low carb to WW.

@banky15492 I am combining the two. I am not eating processed carbs like bread, rice, or starchy veggies. It is taking some getting used to but I will see my first result on Wednesday when I weigh in.

I think it’s because it is natural sugar and not added sugar

Because it is sweet and better choice than candy, cookies, pie, cake etc. WW made it zero to help us make fruit our choice instead of the alternative. They are zero but not free of calories.

Fruit sugar is natural, the bad kind is called free sugar, like what is in drinks, can fruit and veg. Ect. Something like that.

Years ago fruit did have points but I read that WW changed it so that people ate more healthier, it's zero points for 1 cup of fruit (don't know if the points change after that 1 cup).

@spur19 yeah I think they changed it to encourage healthier snack options. I remember bananas were 2 pts and a snack pack of mini cookies was 1-2 pts. I truly believe that weight watchers tries to teach people healthier choices and better portions. Rather than "dieting"

@basketry Yup I agree, when they had points I used them on crap food instead of fruit or veggies

@spur19 yep me too. I am really loving the new green plan. It's very similar to the old program but I like being able to have free vegetables and fruit.

@basketry Me too and I find it is more accountable, although the Blue plan is like freestyle it would not have worked for me, to many 0 point foods
by (1.2k points)
@spur19 yep i feel that way too. I don't mind the accountability it keeps me in line. I'm getting back on track with understanding foods and knowing where there's a little give-and-take

Tara, WW is not a low carb diet.

@swarts I understand. I looked into keto which is not for me. But I was curious to know why fruit is such a no no on keto/low carb and WW

In the proper qty. You can't go crazy with zero point foods.

It is like the difference of eating an orange and drinking a cup of orange juice. The orange is better because you get fiber .
