Too many chemicals for me. I just eat real sugar in moderation if I need it.

I can’t handle them either!

Some people can’t tolerate artificial sweeteners and some can. I think it’s like anything else, nothing is 100% good or bad for you if it’s man made ‍♀️

I can’t have too many. It seems to zap my energy. I do ok in moderation. I still have my Diet Coke with lunch though.

Yeah they are bad! There are some alternatives that look to be better, like monk fruit as a sweetener. But pre-packaged sugar free usually uses bad things such as Splenda or sucralose or aspartame
by (1.9k points)
@mumps you forgot to add “in your opinion. ”
by (6.4k points)
@fledge ok want data?
by (1.9k points)
@mumps no because there is always data and a professional out there to support the opposite position. You already have your mind set. There are things better for you I’ll agree but many people use these products and have no problems. I don’t think all doctors even agree on this 100%. If people have questions they should consult their doctor.
by (6.4k points)
@fledge absolutely that’s why this is Facebook. She didn’t ask a doctor she asked Facebook. Idk why you had to even comment obviously it’s all opinion. I’m so sick of Facebook. I’ll have to stop commenting. Thanks for making me upset and making such a stupid thing an argument.
by (1.9k points)
I apologize if I made you feel bad. I just wanted to let others know that it’s an opinion which we all have. Good luck in your healthy lifestyle.

@mumps Gracia. I appreciate your feedback. Thank you.

Yes they are bad for you. If it is made in a plant or lab it's not healthy. If grows from a plant or a pasture raised animal, it's healthy. That's my guideline anyway.
by (4.1k points)
@jinajingle. You can't always count on that because most plants are sprayed with chemicals & it depends on how the meat has been processed to stay fresh from the pasture to the grocery store
by (16.4k points)
@lorusso99 I only buy local and organic
by (4.1k points)
@jinajingle Thats great for you but most people can't afford organic or meats grown & processed from the farm
by (16.4k points)
@lorusso99 most people? I don't believe that.
by (16.4k points)
@lorusso99 regardless fruits, veggies, and meats (not lab grown) will always be healthier than artificial sweeteners even if not organic.

Aspartame messes with my stomach, I’ve heard too many bad things about Splenda. I like stevia.
by (6.8k points)
@adrenalin78730 Did u know stevia was banned in the US in 1991? I think they are all the same we just need moderation in my opinion
by (8.8k points)
@crissie44313, how do they continue to sell it?
by (6.8k points)
@adrenalin78730 google it! I think they changed the name
by (6.8k points)
Not sure if the source is legit

Different strokes for diff folks. I happen to have no problem with Splenda products. I enjoy many treats with various sugar alternatives without a problem
by (4.1k points)
@garb4. I agree no problem with Splenda but I can't use the products with aspartame which is in most soda drinks & flavored waters. messes big time with my stomach. My doctor has no problem with me using Splenda as long as it is in moderation

So many chemicals plus I don’t like the taste of anything with artificial sweeteners. I just eat sugar in moderation or as a “cheat” or treat.
by (1.8k points)
@zena25 I am like that too till I got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. ☹️
by (4.5k points)
@dissert105 @garb4 Moore not sure what I would do in that case. I dispose the taste of the artificial stuff. I haven’t found one yet that I like.
by (1.8k points)
@zena25 yeah I just got diagnosed last week so it’s new to me.
by (4.5k points)
@dissert105 @garb4 Moore good luck. They have a lot of alternatives so hopefully you find some that you like.
by (16.5k points)
@dissert105 @garb4 Moore So much of the sugar-free items contain Sorbitol. It does a trip on my intestines. I can’t eat it at all. I use some SF things (creamer) but always check for that ingredient.
by (1.8k points)
@zena25 thank you
by (16.5k points)
@dissert105 @garb4 Moore I have IBS. But I have discovered a prescription that REALLY helps. I’m 73 and have had IBS since I was nine. I got these pills about three or four years ago. Total life changer. If you want to know about it , I’ll PM you.

I have the blue packet of sugar substitute in my coffee every day. I got a scoop of Sugar-Free Baskin Robbins ice cream and had awful tummy troubles. almost didn’t make it home!
by (4.4k points)
@dehumidify sugar free ice cream does the same to me also. But I can tolerate artificial sweetener in other things.

Were all different . I’m diabetic and quite thankful for some of the wonderful products we have today. In my mothers time, it was sweet 10 or sweeten low and those are both horrid so we’ve come along way if you don’t like them you could try more natural things like Monk fruit

Malitol will give you very bad gas.
by (8.3k points)
@longdistance49864 , yes! All chemicals/sweeteners are not equal. Malitol kills my stomach - horrible gas pains. Does the same to my friend. Therefore, cannot eat Fiber One bars but can eat the Fiber One Cake bars.
by (48.9k points)
@longdistance49864 True and if you’re diabetic malitol is also very high in carbohydrates

It depends on the individual. I have been using sweet N low and equal for over 40 years with no problems. I switched to stevia about 3 years ago. Still prefer the other two.

Many artificial sweeteners are said to cause a glycemic system response from your body. That glycemic response can cause some individuals to lose weight more slowly. Basically that means your body reacts to it just like sugar .

@connett very interesting

Not any worse for you than being obese
by (20.6k points)
@bemire34 Good point. I think the artificial sweeteners were originally developed for diabetics.
by (7.3k points)
@freesia I eat it, not a huge amount, but like my coffee creamer and pudding I always get the sugar-free for those things, go with what works for you

Things with sucralose are. you just have to check the ingredients and research them. when looking at food labels look for anything worth 5 grams of sugar or less. the body does not process this amount of sugar into fat it just goes straight through the lower in sugar the better but also the more natural the better . the body has a hard time digesting fake sugars and chemicals
by (2k points)
@nimrod Thank you

Yes. Fat is often a substitute or that poison oxytol (sp? ) which gives you the runs! Often in sugar free peanut butter, which is poison for dogs! Time to do some Googling!

I don’t think they are bad for you unless you have problems with them - ie, stomach issues. Fermented artificial sweeteners (sorbitol) give me gas so I avoid them but live on sweet & low. Whatever works best for you.

Yes. As a matter of fact, they do NOT help with weight loss. Check what Aspartame, Saccharine, etc do to your body. Some new sweeteners have come out -Stevia, Monkfruit- I don't know what their impacts are but at lead they aren't chemicals.
by (2k points)
@coracle1912 yes!

Yes they have added chemicals. Just look for food with little or no sugar.
