My 12 year old was just diagnosed with Hoshimotos and has been unable to be seen by an Endocrinologist due to the Pandemic. she has gained 50 pounds in the last 6 months, so I am thinking she may have hypothyroidism as well. it is so frustrating to know something is wrong and not be able to do anything about it. trying to get her to at least try weight watchers with me, but try telling that to a 12 year old stuck in the house 24/7.

@insomuch Hashimoto's is a severe form of hypothyroidism
by (5.6k points)
@debidebilitate7714 I was told it was something that leads to hypothyroidism. I know nothing and it is scary as I don’t know how to Help her. she was supposed to go to endocrinologist in March.
by (1.9k points)
@insomuch there are a lot of drs doing telemedicine right now or online appointments. Maybe try a few drs to see if you can get her in.
by (5.6k points)
@departure6 she missed her first appointment by a day because they cancelled all appointments. nobody will see new patients via telehealth for first visit. I called every pediatric endocrinologist around

@insomuch I hear you. I am so sorry. This is so frustrating. My thyroid looks like a honeycomb due to Hashimoto's. Hopefully she can get an appointment soon.
by (5.6k points)
@debidebilitate7714 that is exactly my fear if she is not treated soon. We have an appointment June 1 with the head of the department, hopefully she will be fine until then.

I have had half of my thyroid removed, I like Blue. I've lost 45 since September, yes it's slow, but it's working. Good luck

@nanine I am the same. What do you find as successful meals or specific foods? Thank you!

I'm on blue and have lost 35 lb. You have to make sure they get your meds right. It took me years to get the right dosage. And my body needs to be a little over active to be normal. So my tsh is like 1.

I don't know yet. I have hashimotos. I started on Keto and lost 30 pounds in 6 months, but then stalled for 6 months. Went for my regular check-up and doc says to switch to mediterraen or WW. This one seems the easiest, so I joined. I losr only 4 pounds in 3 weeks. but it's a loss. Anyome with this disporder knows how hard that is. plus I'm 63. Keep it up, it works, , , , , just slower.

What plan works best for a post menopausal woman? Only looking to lose maybe 15 lbs but seems so hard to do it the way I used to.
by (970 points)
@rampant Campbell recommended bio-identical hormones.

I just started with this plan and I’m on Blue. I have had hypothyroidism for over 30 years
by (1.2k points)
@eaglestone5 me too. Losing 1 to 2 lbs per week
by (2.1k points)
@snowbird me too. I lost 3-4 lbs a week the first couple of weeks but we all know that’s too good to be true. I was on the monentum program about 8 years ago and I know WW works. I find this app way easier to track

Unfortunately, there is more to these issues then just which plan you choose. Hashimotos has been shown to be related to gut health. So, any of these plans could work. Plus, eliminating gluten, sugar and adding pro and pre-biotics

Hypothyroidism ~ down 23 lbs since January on Purple. I am a grazer ~ like to eat all day ~ small snacks, especially all the zero points working well. A little slower loss than when I was younger & before thyroid issues but WW works if you exercise (I only walk, etc 20 min a day), track food & let the plan work!
by (4.8k points)
@spaghetti80 thank you sooo much for sharing this, I am hypo too. I don’t know how to do purple, do you eat all the zero points you feel the need to or limit them please?
by (7.9k points)
@essa1204 well you do need to limit to an extent. Example Bananas are 0 pts but you should limit to one, not 3. I try to think of it as a serving would be 0 pts. So one banana, a half cup of blueberries (but I do one cup! ), etc. You can do it! Just use common sense!
by (4.8k points)
@spaghetti80 , thank you for encouragement! I am completely new to the color coding WW. How did you choose purple?
by (7.9k points)
@essa1204 it kinda chose me. I think I answered some questions & got paired with it. But after reading about the plans & my liking to snack every 3-4 hrs , I felt it was a good fit & it has been. It seems like the other plans are more for people who like 3 meals a day & don’t necessarily snack as much.
by (4.8k points)
@spaghetti80 ohhhh, do you recall where you got the questions, I have the WW app and no other resource to be in the know.
by (7.9k points)
@essa1204 hmmm I thought when I signed up on the app. I only do online so I’d think that was where. Maybe google where? Or on app contact customer service?

I have hypothyroidism and I am down 111 lbs it has been 2 years this month I still have about 30 to goal I was on the blue plan for all this list but got at a stall switched to green last week and have lost about 2lbs. I think I needed the portion control with the green plan as you have to count everything but fruits and veggies.

@debidebilitate7714 what are your basics food wise?
by (5k points)
@sharitasharity5886 Ole Tortilla wraps, chicken breast and thighs, fruit (not past 3pm), eggs, eggs, and more eggs! I like my protein shake and built bars. I do eat prepackaged meals and I drink a LOT of water. My TSH level is darn near "too low" level (which makes my overall thyroid level "high"). I feel so much better when it is in the range, and I feel like my weight comes off at a much more normal pace (much to my doctors chagrin).
by (1.5k points)
@debidebilitate7714 thanks! I need to get my levels tested soon.

@sharitasharity5886 I wish you normal levels!

I have PCOS, hypothyroidism, insulin resistant, and Hashimotos. My Endocrinologist suggested that I use the blue plan. I have been on it for 3 weeks and have 10 lbs. I am also still adjusting my meds.
by (6.2k points)
@magill has your endocrinologist considered metformin? It helps with weight loss as well and is used in both PCOS and insulin resistance.
by (5.1k points)
I have pcos and I'm on metformin. I'm on green I'm down 20lbs since March with no physical activity. (Lol, I will preach the gospel on Metformin , this is the first time any kind of weight loss program has worked for me. I had done Weight Watchers in the past and not lost a pound even with exercise. Since I added the metformin it has been a game changer)
by (1.5k points)
@magill what are you basic foods that you eat daily?
by (880 points)
@discrown yes. I will start it in 4 months. I am taking ozempic shots once a week for now.
by (880 points)
@sharitasharity5886 i am also fasting and only eat from 11 to 7. I eat eggs, cheese, chicken, and pickles a lot . I am really trying to cut way down on sugar, so I eat a lot of low sugar or sugar free foods. I am trying to stay away from bread. I have added more vitamin supplements too.

I have had Hypothyroidism for 23 years and recently my Endo. said I have Hashimotos, but blood work did not have anti-bodies so I still am not sure. I don't lose on the blue plan, I only lose a little weight on purple and only with exercise.
