I am 5'4" and 180 lbs. I am going to be down to 155 by my 32nd birthday, July 22nd. Do you think this is attainable and safe?

I would aim for 5 lb at a time and not hold yourself to a deadline

@lewert Probably a good call.
by (3.9k points)
@lewert . great advice! Because there shouldn’t be a deadline.

That would be about 2 pounds a week. Definitely possible but don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get all the way there! It just depends on how strict you are and your body chemistry. Healthy weight loss is about 1-2 pounds a week so it’s definitely possible. I’ve lost about 10 pounds in 3 weeks
by (5.7k points)
Plus, daily walks or exercise will help

Possibly. It's about 2 pounds per week.

That's a little over 2 months. WW is set up for an average loss of 1/2 to 2 pounds a week. So, that's a high goal. You won't lose more (and may even lose less) if you eat below the Healthy Eating Range over a period of time (it's okay occaisonally). BUT. if you try and end up a little over 155, won't that still be good? Add some activity and you may lose inches as ypu tone your body and look like you've lost more than that. Best wishes!
by (630 points)
@rubyeruch87 per month or per week? And thank you :)
by (38.9k points)
@language19016 per week. Oops! I'll fix it

If you are very strict about it then you will be close. -2lbs is a great week for me but it’s usually -1 to -1. 5

Keep your expectations reasonable and realistic. WW is a slow process but a great healthy lifestyle you can maintain for life.

I think it’s doable but you’ll have to be super strict

by (1.7k points)
Of course it is possible you could do it . But remember you would have to 100% committed no slip ups. That is a tough one. What you need to do is just focus on doing your best. You have done really well so far. I find if you set yourself a target and don't achieve it you think of yourself as a failure . Which you are not. Being on a diet is hard enough let alone all the emotional things that go with it. I have given up beating myself up about not getting to my target by certain dates Im just happy that I've come this far .

You'll have to be strict and even then I'm just not sure it's doable. I'm 5'4 and started January 1st at 181. It's may now and I'm 156. 8 as of Monday. So 4 months for me. And I want to get to 140. It comes off slower the closer you get to the 150's. I have rarely cheated either one or two days in those months And I workout 6 days a week.
by (1.5k points)
@injunction, I was in the 150's for months.
by (8.6k points)
@snow4 yeah it took me 3 weeks to get to 159 and 3 weeks later I'm at 156 I want to see 155 so bad Because that was my pre pregnancy weight and of course goal at 140 haha
by (1.5k points)
@injunction, be patient. I was ready to give up. I've been in the 140-144 range for about 2 months.
by (8.6k points)
@snow4 thank you I will. I've definitely had my moments. I wanted to be 140 by July but I'm thinking September is probably more reasonable
by (1.5k points)

Everyone’s so different. I can drop 25 lbs in 6 weeks. no exercise. But I do also think 150 is hard to break. My body loves it there too. I always have to kick it up a couple notches to get below.

It’s attainable if you bust your butt. Average weight loss on WW is 2. 2 lbs per week. Keep sticky notes with your goal all over the fridge and everywhere all over your home. Good luck!

That’s pretty aggressive. In 2011, it took me seven months to go from 186 to 148. I am now almost 53, started WW again at 185lbs and I’m now down 20lbs. But, you’re 20 years younger than me. that may be an advantage but you definitely have to be very disciplined! All the best!

I would set your goal weight but not set the time. It is possible but keep in mind that the closer you get to goal weight the slower it comes off. Losing anything will be a great birthday gift. Focus on losing the weight and how you will keep it off when you make it get there!

At 31? I think you probably can if you follow the plan. Any chance some of that weight is from having babies in the past year or two? If so, I say your chances are better.

by (10k points)
I think it's reasonable if you are willing to track each bite, eat more natural and less processed foods and burn some calories each day! There's a balance between stressing yourself out over a goal number and not being accountable because you're being kind to yourself. Find that balance and then you'll lose weight at the right speed and feel good about it! Also, pay attention to the wins that aren't scale related like how your clothes fit, increased energy, better digestion, being less sluggish, etc.

That is really not an easy question to answer. I did my average, from when I started to my goal and it was 5 lbs a month. Everyone is different and it also depends on how committed you are to the program. Good luck, but please DO NOT get discouraged if you don't get to your personal goal. The goal should be to be healthy and when you hit 155 kudo's at that time and remember it's a lifestyle change, you don't stop working the program when you hit your goal. That's when the work starts!

Your goal at max should be . 5 -2 pounds per week. Sometimes you hit a little more, sometimes less. WW is a slow weight lifestyle change. It is not a fad diet.

Don’t discount your non scale victories. Although the number on the scale is a slow but necessary process, our non scale victories are just as rewarding! Losing inches is a huge accomplishment in this journey. I wanted to lose 45 lbs by my 45th birthday which was in April. I started in January. I’m down 32 lbs but the amount of inches I’ve lost is awesome! The quicker you lose, the easier the chance of gaining it back, believe me, I’ve been there. Just focus on healthy habits and you. It will come off and you’ll be prepared to keep it off. Best of luck!

@thacker I was 240lbs on March 7th. I am 5’8”. I’ve lost a ton of weight on my own. 4 years ago I was almost almost 300 lbs. Hence that hideous pic of me at almost 300lbs. I gained some back and decided to put the brakes on it. I joined ww to guide me because doing it on my own took forever. This is working for me so well.

A long term goal is essential. Short term goals are essential. Don’t set yourself up for failure if you only lose small amounts on a weekly basis. I lost ounces each week. It took me a year to lose twenty pounds. Each of us is different. That being said, yes I think your weight loss goal is attainable. Good luck

Don’t set an end date so you won’t be disappointed. Just remember that this is the way you will have to eat forever. The good thing is that it isn’t complicated or difficult. it’s a change in your lifestyle that won’t stop on your birthday. I have averaged 3 pounds per month. but I’m at goal and have learned this will be my new normal! It’s great!

Hope you get there but keep in mind that plateaus happen for weeks. please do not get discouraged, it’s a process, normally it equals to about 1 pound a week. We all put the weight on slowly. woke up one day and didn’t like or recognize the person in the mirror. so keep that in mind. Best of luck to you on your journey. don’t stress if it takes a little longer. Happy “early” Birthday.

You could probably do it if you exercised a lot. I wouldn’t try to do it with just diet because your calories will go too low- but I’m not sure if it’s a good idea. You would probably be better off if you consulted with your doctor or a nutritionist but if I had to guess that seems like an aggressive plan. I would try for 15 pounds or 5 per month which even at that will be a challenge.

I weighed 180 (September 2018) when I started WW. I joined knowing this is not a road race nor a diet but a road to healthy eating for the rest of my life. I made 140 pound in July 2019 and never thought I was missing out. It's all in how you look at your goal.
by (16.6k points)

1-2 lbs a week is good, if you lose to fast it comes back fast lol
by (16.6k points)
@bridgman7 no proof of that. You lose at the pace your body allows you. Just follow the plan and your body will respond accordingly.
by (2.7k points)
I'm proof lol and I spoke to many nutritionist and WW support. Yes everyone loses differently, but statistics say slow and steady wins

If you're under 50 it's much easier to lose it that quickly. I've been stuck at a 15 lb loss for several weeks. Started in Feb. I'm 65 but not too worried. I'm in this for the long haul!
