That ALWAYS happens to me whenever I “go under the knife”! Word of caution, though. don’t pig-out on comfort food during your recovery time! Otherwise it WILL stick with you

I had surgery a week ago. Got on the scale and wondered how I gained 10!

Anytime you have surgery, there is trauma to the body and it tries to heal itself with fluids. much like a blister. As you heal, the fluid will dicipate and you will lose the weight.

I will go away. Patients usually receive a lot of IV fluids before and during surgery. Just keep drinking water, try to avoid salt if you can.

It’s not a gain. It will go away.

Was in the hospital 3 days. Nothing by mouth for first 2 days. Third day, broth and jello. Gained 11 pounds. Everything thru the IV (antibiotics, pain, even liquid Pepcid).

Bags of normal saline were infused. Water will help flush all the sodium out.

Any surgery is a trauma to the body and anesthesia is designed to mess with normal body functions. Ignore the scale! Your body’s sole responsibility is to heal.

Surgery causes water retention. It will take a little time. Just try to stay on track.

Yes! I had surgery last year. Didn’t eat or drink a thing for 6 days and gained 19 pounds. Could barely put my clothes on to go home. It was all the fluids and the anesthesia. Came off pretty fast tho.

Did you ask why your retaining water ? You shouldn’t gain 5lbs a week. Just make sure you check in with your doctor to make sure.

It is surgery. In the simple basic easiest explanation, your body is stopping everything because it doesnt know what happened so it will resume normal business when it figures out it is okay.

Definitely surgery weight and it will go, but on its own time. I found myself heavier than I wanted to be after both knee replacement and hip replacement. Seems like it took a few weeks.

Were you on IV fluids? Wt gain was probally the water weight you lost being replaced. Don't worry it will even out in few says

It’s from the surgery. They blow you up with gas and the anesthesia constipates you.

You get an IV of saline that pretty much runs the whole time, it takes a few days to pee it all out. It's not true weight gain, it will come off.

It will depending on what type of procedure you had they sometimes have to pump you up with gas.
