Am pretty new to WW, but I am noticing the weeks I work out a lot, my weight loss is slower than the weeks I work out less. I dont use any extra weeklies or fit points either way and am terrible about staying hydrated (no natural thirst). Is this just a flune or is there a reason for it?

A friend explained to me recently that muscle holds water. When you are building muscle you will be heavier because of that or maybe lose slower. Maybe make yourself drink more to flush out more. I am not a water drinker and have to make myself drink it or anything else for that matter. Like you, no natural thirst.

@maness10 this is exactly why! As you work out, your muscles will retain more water. If you aren’t drinking enough water you will retain more

I was told you retain more water when you work out. So you have to drink more water - half your body weight in ounces.

I work out at least 6 days a week and it doesn’t stall my weight loss. I do heavy lifting and walk/running.

I have lost 35 since the end of January and 20 lbs from goal. Drink 1/2 your body weight in ounces of water, and if you’re exercising a lot you need to maybe dip into your weeklies so your body gets the nourishment it needs and doesn’t go into starvation mode.

I would say adjust your diet when you workout you're obviously burning more calories/energy so make sure you're eating the right foods to fuel your body

When you work out a lot you start building muscles, which weigh more. Don’t just go by the scale, but by how you feel and how your clothes fit. Good luck

I have had the same thing happen. I worked out every day last week and was up 2. 5 lbs. I didn't do anything but sit around yesterday and I dropped this 2. 5 lbs!

Other commenters are right, muscle weighs more. Dont let it discourage you because the muscle is definitely doing your body favors both as far as health goes and for looks too. Also, long-term, building muscle will help you lose more weight later on because it helps to boost your metabolism, burning more calories throughout the day and helping you to lose weight more quickly.

Muscle takes up less room than fat does. Consider taking your measurements and see how they compare when it’s slow. I’m going thru the same thing and it sucks not to see the scale move but measurements are changing

Muscles when first developing hold onto body water. You're toning up your body and may lose inches even when the scale doesn't reward you with a lower number. And, you're making your body stronger and healthier so that's a win!

Measurements! The scale may not move but you are probably losing inches!

I prefer cherry coke zero over water. BUT now that I'm also drinking 5 bottles of water a day, I feel thirstier than ever. Hopefully that will happen for you, too. Start with a reachable goal. 2 or 3 bottles a day and increase it each week. You can do it!

@involution yes, the getting started drinking lots of water is the hardest but within a few weeks 5-6 bottles are easy and that’s from me barely drinking 1 bottle a day! I never thought I would be able to drink this much water!
