I recently was diagnosed with High blood pressure. I was wondering if anyone was able to lower their blood pressure and get off BP medication with WW?

I wish. I lost 30 lbs and weigh 136 lbs. I’m 5’5”. I exercise (cardio, weights, bands, & yoga). Am in great shape at age 63. I still have to take a BP pill

It’s not a punishment but a helpful hand in keeping us alive! I get it though bc it makes me feel old having to take it but I try to remember it’s keeping me alive so I can get older!

I suffered a double brain bleed stroke 6 years ago and was diagnosed with both HBP and diabetes with an A1c of 9. 7. 106 pounds later (still on meds but lower dosage)my BP is in the normal range, my A1c is a 5. 3. Losing weight will help if not something prone to. Wishing you much success

Don’t beat yourself up if you don’t get off BP meds. Some of us just have BP issues that only meds will help. I lost 25#’s but am still on mine. Had knee replacement surgery & because they flooded me with too much fluid, sent me into congestive heart failure . Now have to be on a no salt diet but I never was a salt person anyway. Just be aware of what you eat & be mindful of portions control. You can handle it
by (21.9k points)
@lardner it has certainly been an adjustment! Now I track points & sodium. Sodium is in so many things you wouldn’t believe . ff milk has 105 - who knew!

Never will be off mine. Had a massive heart attack and then 2 more. but smoking didn't help. Just something that I have to do.

Yes. Had quite high BP. 170 systolic. after losing 80 lb. Systolic is 98. But, high b p runs in lean members of family, so was surprised. Hope to get off cholesterol meds at next Dr. visit.

No BP problems but lowered my cholesterol 70 pts since last July! Added bonus of WW!
by (1.2k points)
@lardner I was shocked when I saw the test results! That’s flax seed and red yeast rice every day! Combination of everything worked I guess!
by (1.2k points)
@lardner It’s an herbal supplement. Tried it instead of a statin. Recommended by my dr
by (1.2k points)
@lardner It’s not my BP. I am blessed with low BP. It’s my cholesterol- was 271 last July. 201 in January

Yes, I have dropped 25 pounds. Before I joined I was taking 3 different kinds of blood pressure medication, after losing the poundage I was taken off of 2 of them and now carry a great reading. 116/64 usually.

It’s not just salty foods — look for total sodium content on the nutrition facts. preservatives such as sodium nitrate will do you in. Prepared foods and deli meats can be loaded with sodium. And choose very carefully in Asian food restaurants. ‍♀️ a bowl of pho can have 1500 mg of sodium. Yikes!

@lardner yes, Sista, that scale will jump and those jeans’ll be tight!

I use to be on 40mg of blood pressure meds but, after losing weight I'm on 10mg. My Dad and brother has had high cholesterol and open heart surgery and a lot of heart problems and she told me that because of my family history I might have to take that a small mg. I'm 64yrs old and off all medications except that small dose since I've lost weight.

I was on 5 BP meds, none of which lowered it very well due to my morbid obesity. Lost 178 lbs (76 with WW) and at 69, my BP is normal and I’m off all the BP meds!

Talk with your doctor variety of reasons for high blood pressure PLEASe. Our daughter had it at 3. She was very petite. I fed her the best foods organic fruits veggies home cooked this and that. Her brother same thing. He had a stroke at 23. No high blood pressure before on him. He got hurt in Iraq. She had genetic high blood pressure. Is in her 30's watches everything that goes into her mouth. Exercises 7 days a week. It's still high but not S bad as when she was little. She five foot 3 only weights 99 pounds solid muscle. She fights for her health thru diet and exercise
