Just told by boss I’m taking too many restroom breaks so now I have to cut down on my water. Any suggestions on how to consume the amount needed in the evening?

What if you have a bladder issue? It’s none of his business now often you pee. I would talk to HR. That should not be allowed.

That’s horrible, you should report that to upper management.

Your boss shouldn't limit your bathroom breaks. Report your boss. Keep drinking.

They shouldn't say anything about the many bathroom breaks it's your health and I wouldnt stop drinking during the day you need that to stay healthy

Actually, I think you can report that to HR. As long as you are getting your job done, you should be fine.

I say get a new job! Seriously! That’s just not right!

Speak to HR and keep drinking. Let your boss know that the water is keeping you healthy and the alternative is a major health issue that will take you out for a longer time.

Agree what about tje smokers and there breaks.
by (180 points)
@introvert Everyone gets 2 15-minute breaks. Our smokers don't get extra breaks.

If your in California I’m sure there’s a law against employers for saying that.

I don’t think that’s legal to limit somebody’s number of bathroom breaks. I would talk to management or whoever is above your boss.

Totally illegal

Get a new boss! Or find a way to lock the men's room! Crazy glue?

Please talk to HR and also get a doctor's note or something to back you up. That's ridiculous. Some people just process water faster and we're supposed to be drinking 8 glasses a day, anyway. Otherwise you need to find a better job who will treat you with human dignity.

Is drinking a lot of water at work worth ruining your relationship with your supervisor? Just drink more water later in the day.
by (1.4k points)
@newson no u get a doctor's note you'll be peeing all day anyways
by (180 points)
@exaggerate I think it's a bad idea to start a war with a supervisor.

Tell your boss he can’t tell you not to take restroom breaks
by (180 points)
@hautemarne Phillips He can fire her for not keeping up with her work.
by (3k points)
@newson If a person is unable to keep up with their work load due to a few ‘pit-stops’ there are bigger issues at play.
by (180 points)
@divot I don't think she should run to HR or get surely with her supervisor over something she can control. She can drink a normal amount of water until later in the day.
by (180 points)
@divot I believe it was more than a few.
by (3.5k points)
@divot This ☝️. An employer doesn’t complain about a great employee that goes to the bathroom too often. It could be she has the type of job where they need constant coverage like a receptionist as opposed to an office worker for example where it wouldn’t really be noticed.
by (1.4k points)
@newson not for a quick piss here and there piss on break too

@prothalamium You assume all bosses deserve their jobs and are good at it. I worked in the union and sometimes incompetent people got promoted first. I had many excellent bosses that respected my work ethic but over the course of 28 years I had a few real losers as bosses that nearly tortured me to death despite my working circles around the brown nosers they liked to surrounded themselves with. Brown nosers I was always having to pick up the slack for.
by (3.5k points)
I know what you’re saying. There are some real loser bosses out there. Still, there is a way to make even the losers happy, as in the case of the brown nosers you mentioned they figured out how to do it (make the boss happy).

As everyone said, he is not allowed to do that. Go to HR

@jeans3503 Why start a war between her and her supervisor?

How many times a day are you going before work lunch finish time in your time and maybe once in between that’s 5 times! Should be enough

Where do you work, where they monitor your potty breaks.
by (5.1k points)
Could be a job where you need to stay at your desk (eg call center rep)
by (7.7k points)
Yes I worked front desk at a daycare and couldn't leave unless someone from the back office came up to cover for me and so you were pulling them away from their work and if someone is needing the bathroom a lot complaints would result so I totally see that happening.
by (1.5k points)
Yup! I only get 1 break per day plus my lunch. Not much water drinking for me.

Get a note from your doctor saying you need the water. And there is nothing your boss can do about. I had the same problem at my job.

Note from doctor now! I have kidney disease pee on breaks too.

As long as you're just going in and out to pee, what's the problem? I'm sure you're not in there 15 minutes.

Here’s another suggestion talk to your doctor about the need for bathroom breaks and see if he/she will give u an order to use bathroom when needed.

Drink as much as you can before work. Then pee as soon as you get to work.

I had a boss like that at the bank , she would knock on the bathroom door if I were in there too long. Eventually I quit and filed for unemployment until I got another job and they turned me down so I filed an appeal and they had their top attorneys and I won. Got another job in 3 months . She was a mean .

I know WW encourages water but my doctor told me there is no scientific evidence that drinking all of that water is beneficial. I cut back -on her advice and spend a lot less time running to the bathroom. I drink if I’m thirsty rather than to just drink and problem solved.

Just make sure your bathroom breaks are quick. If you are only in there to pee it should be 5 minutes top.
