Any input on why my cameras have recently lost motion sensitivity?! I haven’t changed any settings, doesn’t seem to make any difference as to wether the cameras are fully charged or not. Cameras are in the exact same location as they have been for the last several months. Just had my business security system go off due to motion detected, yet my Arlo camera didn’t pick up a single thing, even though there are two cats who used to trigger the camera constantly.
Any input on why my cameras have recently lost motion sensitivity?!

I had to uninstall and reinstall the app last week to resolve this issue. I’ve tried so many different things and reinstalling the app worked

@ihab49 I’m insanely unimpressed with these cameras, especially for the price. The one I have in the front window of my home can’t detect a damn thing through the window. Even on a perfectly clear day, it has not once EVER detected motion.

I was happy with them, until yesterday i subscribed for the free month trial and thats when all started

@montgolfier23 it will not detect any motion thru glass as the glass blocks the camera operation.

@boneyard The other two cameras detect motion through glass?  Maybe I’m missing something but. why would clean, clear glass prevent a camera from detecting motion when but you against the glass? There are no reflections going on.

@montgolfier23 my understanding is that motion is detected using some kind of signal that gets broken when something moves thru the wave. Glass blocks that wave. I guess it is ultrasonic. Had same problem when I first bought my Pro 2 a year ago.

@boneyard very interesting because the same camera that isn’t detecting motion currently used to pick up foot traffic from outside my store windows. That camera sits like 25 feet from the windows.

Hmm, that is interesting. Never got any of mine to work thru glass. However, just had a thought that the camera was placed right behind the glass, maybe if a distance away it works? Was told re camera produces a frequency a year ago on this site. U got me thinking now

Come to think of it- there is a fish tank to the immediate left- it would pick up motion from the fish tank, too. Currently, it doesn’t detect a damn thing. Glass or no glass. Not even that fat cat there in the floor caused it to detect any motion

@montgolfier23 have a look at @chapbook8's posting down below. Only Arlo Q can work thru glass as camera uses infrared (not ultrasonic).

My cameras for some reason are recording audio, when audio recording is off ‍♂️

I turned the suddenly not detecting camera off then back on. Workng again

@euphemism49 I have done that. Even let the batteries fully drain before recharging. The only thing I haven’t done is entirely uninstall and reinstalled.

I guess I’m lucky mine have been pretty much trouble free. The 2 on front of my shop record about 6-700 events a day.

@chapbook8 are any looking thru glass?
by (2.4k points)
@chapbook8 is that a cam in your car?
by (520 points)
@portie7511 yes. An Arlo go. I could use a regular Arlo since coverage is good when at home but no help when on the road.
by (520 points)
@boneyard No. Only the Arlo Q will detect motion through glass. Arlo’s I believe use IR for detection and that will not work through glass.

@chapbook8 that explains why Elizabeth's camera cannot work thru glass.

@boneyard but my shop camera used to pick up motion through a fish tank and store front windows. it just isn’t doing so currently. Only my home camera won’t detect motion through the window.

@montgolfier23 r U sure it was not picking up audio such as water running or a pump?
by (290 points)
@boneyard could be the pump more recently, but it still used to pick up motion from outside the shop, prior to the aquarium install. And if it were the pump, why isn’t it detecting anything at all these days? Detection started dwindling over the last month or two, now it isn’t detecting squat. Will try uninstalling/reinstalling entirely tomorrow.

If in warranty, get it replaced. Had a camera that could never detect motion, but audio okay. Took nearly three months, countless calls, oodles of frustration, but eventually it was replaced.

My ultras are doing the same thing . No motion detection , notifications, or video recording. I can get live feed and manually recording’s
