Wow.  I'm super disappointed with my Arlo Pro 2 cameras.Wow. I'm super disappointed with my Arlo Pro 2 cameras. My truck was broken into last night and my camera didnt even get triggered to record while the guy ransacked my truck. My neighbors cheap ass cameras caught him but not mine? WTF?

Arlo cameras always work. except when they don’t. (Which is more than they do).

Why is your neighbours camera in your driveway?
by (400 points)
@hospitalization that's my neighbors driveway. He went to my house right after
by (400 points)
@hospitalization dont be stupid.
by (410 points)
@alcove4 Ah that makes sense. frustrating about the lack of detection though. I run two cameras at the front that look from both angles of my entrance and set a trigger so that if one camera catches motion the other will record too.

I have the same problem. Arlo 2. Doesn't trigger through glass
by (400 points)
@hopehopeful9219 my camera is right outside on my house pointed at my truck. Right above garage
by (1k points)
@alcove4 well shit. Yeah they don't trigger properly then
by (400 points)
@hopehopeful9219 I think these are shit. I shoulda just bought Nest
by (1k points)
@alcove4 yeah I have regrets too

Sounds like you both need hardwire cameras like a swann system because my Arlo pro 2 cameras work fine. Arlo is not for everyone as it has flaws but being a wireless system it works for me.

What sensitivity is it set to?
by (400 points)
@terrie Thanksng 88%
by (32.4k points)
@alcove4 presumably you run 88 so you don't get too many recordings during the day. I do similar except I use one mode for during the day and another mode at night. At night I can run all cameras at 100% sensitivity and not get false alerts while making sure I get all recordings. Consider making a night mode and populating the schedule
by (400 points)
@terrie Thanksng isnt higher sensitivity better? I want to see everything
by (32.4k points)
@alcove4 yep. You can set it for 100 but you might get every vehicle that goes by during the day and that'll drain your battery real quick
by (400 points)
@terrie Thanksng it's hard wired
by (32.4k points)
Oh sweet. 100% sensitivity then. But also see comment about repositioning the camera
by (32.4k points)
The other awesome thing with Pro 2 with AC power is that you get 3 seconds of pre-recording that you see before motion is detected. Obviously motion needs to be detected first
by (270 points)
@terrie Thanksng I didn’t know that! Good to know! Our battery powered cameras are both outside and detect every slightest motion. But the 3 seconds of pre-recording would be great!

I’m yet to invest in cameras, am following this group, ring, swan and some other Chinese brands before I buy. Arlo seems to have the most complications and issues.

@syncretize if you're happy to run the cables, go with POE cameras and a NVR/DVR
by (2.9k points)
@syncretize I think that's bullshit. most operator error or inadequate signal strength being wireless
by (360 points)
I feel like it's hit or miss. Ive had a pro2 setup for over a year now with 3 cameras. 2 plugged in and 1 on battery. I use Amazon firesticks and the echo show to watch them and occasionally it tells me the camera is not responding but after rebooting the base station its good as new. i feel like some base stations don't work as good as others
by (180 points)
@syncretize yeah totally not worth the trouble.
by (210 points)
I've used Arlo cameras for a few years now on jetpack wifi. I've had very few problems with them. I'm not impressed with the newer cameras they've offered though.

You need side to side movement to properly activate the camera. My guess is yours straight on? Keep there sensitivity up and do the test needed to make sure you are getting the shot needed.

Majority of errors in activity is user installation issues, internet stability from equipment or provider, and settings. Im sorry this happened to you, but if the camera is looking head on to your drive way, you need another trigger tonm activate that camera. Either another camera with side to side motion or a sensor like the light. Take the time to do plenty of testing after installing to ensure the settings, features, zones, and cameras are in the right spot.

@best2 what is side to side motion?
by (4.5k points)
@nereidanereids the cameras need to be installed pointing the direction to catch movement across the field of view the camera is aimed.
by (340 points)
@best2 I did not know this ! Thank you

I have the Arlo 2 pro and mine is fantastic picks up and alerts even when the local cat enters my driveway
by (230 points)
@bathesda9 Same as mine. I’ve never had an issue.
by (270 points)
@bathesda9 Mine also! And they are mounted outside.

Don’t blame the camera. Blame the install. You have to have them setup properly. Someone has to “break the beam” in order to activate them. I’ve had mine for 3 years. No issues. Gets lots of activity on them, all hours of the day.

The smart ai helps to identify people. That might be an option as well. I run arlo original and pro 2 cameras with the smart AI it works great. I also run Reolink Argus cameras as a backup option as well.

My Arlo Ultra’s are not as reliable as their doorbell per say. I have sensitivity set at 100, and it either notifies me when the wind shifts . 000000000001 mph or doesn’t notify me at all, it is extremely unreliable. I think it may have something to do with the base. Unlike needing a base the Arlo video doorbell is rock solid and fantastic.

ARLO are garbage. My ring doorbell that is twice the distance away from my cul-de-sac as arlo will catch all movement while the arlo does nothing but waste batteries.
by (610 points)
That is my positioning of my camera. Sometimes it will detect when i leave for work and sometimes it wont. But it will always detect little movement from that tree on the right hand side. ‍♂️ Junk

by (4.5k points)
@wollongong doesn't work that way. Read my post above
by (1.4k points)
@best2 It is and has been for four years catching me mow the grass, walk to check bird feeder, water my plants in the same exact spot that I walked four times.

I'm starting to dislike my arlo pro 2; pictures are getting distorted and lagging time is getting bad. I may have to reboot mine and see what happens.

I have a similar problem. My arlo is located on top of my entrance door. People come and go and this expense arlo camera doesn't record one second of anything. I'm selling this trash and finding something better.

I hear you, mine get people walking right to left to see their asses, but left to right gets them all, and at times nothing. At night in the house they won’t trigger either, and yes sensitivity always set to 100%
