How many envelopes does everybody keep? Right now I’m just keeping three. Food (not grocery), monthly challenges (that I am still learning), $5 challenge. I am still working on building up paying more with cash and less with our bank cards. My husband and I have everything on autopay and have never been cash carriers but I want to get there for our other items like grocery. And honestly the food envelope has been a huge help already!

@sophrosyne77 this is amazing! What wallet and inserts are you using? Are there envelopes inside the tabs as well?

@scilla thank you! This is actually a Betsey Johnson crossbody purse with a removable straps. The envelopes are personal sized and I did hole punched them so that I can use them in my personal ring planner if I decide too! Made them from outdated happy planner calendar dividers. And use tabs out of the carpe deim tab book! I Really love this purse ! wallet

That's such a cute idea! I have a happy planner too, totally doing this to save money! Thanks!

I have 3 — grocery, $1 bills (I do that instead of $5, just easier for me) and then a misc envelope that I fill every month to use on whatever I want but once it’s gone it’s gone

I have a “me” envelope lol I’m lazy so I encompass all of my personal into it - so clothing, makeup, self care. Groceries, Pet, husbands envelope & our cleaning lady - which I don’t technically need an envelope for but it’s easier to keep her money to the side.

@olympic Previously we had like 3-4 vague categories and my husband just plundered them all for stupid stuff. Now, he has to stop, think, plan, etc. And it's going great!

You have to work with it to see what categories work best for you. The expense tracker was really helpful in figuring that out. The envelopes are separate from what I have on autopay/pay online. Some of mine are: Grocery Fuel Sports (admission $ for sports kids our are playing now) Groceries Chickens and Dogs (they need stuff too ) Haircuts.
