Does anyone budget for a capsule wardrobe? I’m going to be making a sinking fund for a new spring and summer wardrobe and Pinterest has me down the rabbit hole looking at different wardrobe capsule ideas.

I do, sort of! I'm just maintaining my wardrobe, though, not starting from scratch. I have a sinking fund for clothing for my husband and I, but I don't really have an end goal amount, just keep banking it up until I need it.

In general, I love the capsule wardrobe idea. But don't feel pressured to overhaul your whole wardrobe. Go through what you have now and decide what fits your actual style and what you really need and go slow. Don't try to buy everything all at once! I usually add 1-3 pieces a season.

@lifesize oh yeah, this mama doesn’t have money to start over like that  but I do want to get maybe three new mix and match outfits. I’m thinking a full out fit would be $100. I have a few items that are just blah and time to go so I was looking at spring summer ideas.

@luckey that's a good place to start! I'd suggest figuring out what color palettes you like best and go from there! It's so fun!

@lifesize yes! The color palettes are the hardest! I love them all

@luckey Haha! I usually stick with neutrals (black, dark blue, tan, white) year round, and add in blush, light blue, olive green, rust, and maroon throughout the year. I find that crazy prints and wild bright colors are harder to mix and match so I usually stick with solids, and stripes, florals, and plaids are my only patterns. Some people can do the bright colors and wild patterns, but that's not really my style and just makes it more work for me to figure out!

Not for me, but I do capsule wardrobes for all 3 of my kids at back-to-school time.

What about checking out some nicer thrift stores or even a consignment store. Or there’s thread up never used them but they are a second hand online store.

@quartz oh that’s my plan!

@luckey I find they hit or miss but if I’m looking for certain items I’ll have a list in my phone for the items so I know what my wardrobe is lacking. Also another thing you could arrange with some close friends / family to have a give away night. Bring items that you no longer want / need and people can choose items to take home with them. Or take your items to a consignment shop and see if you could get money for them. However they don’t always pay the greatest for your clothes.

@quartz yeah I just donate or give away clothing. It’s not worth the hassle trying to sell them. I’m not getting rid of much, but I need to get some staple items that I could find at Salvation Army I’m sure. We have a huge one near us. Also I look at Tjmaxx or Marshall’s. The outlet mall is right down the street so I reserve the old navy shopping for my daughter cuz those clothes fit her so well.

Anyone willing to post pictures of their capsule/minimal wardrobe? I love seeing other people’s closets!
