Anyone else's husband not follow the grocery list you wrote?!  I specifically write down what to get and what brands to get because I go to the store so often that I have every price memorized. All he has to do is just follow the list. But he always comes home with either extra stuff (crap) or he gets expensive brands of the same thing that I wrote down. It makes me absolutely insane. He doesn't look at prices he just grabs whatever the sign says and he thinks he's being so smart but he's actually getting ripped off. Example: on the list I said to get two bags of pretzel rods store-brand. They're a dollar each. He comes home with some weird brand I've never purchased before and he said oh it's okay they were buy one get one free. And I said okay how much was one bag? He said $4. 39. So I said if you would have bought the store brand like I told you you would have spent only $2 on two bags. and his buy one get one free deal he bought 3 bags, so he didn't even complete his "deal" so basically he spent $9 on three bags of pretzels when the store brand would have $3 for three bags. I know it's not a massive problem but it just irritates me because it happens every time I let him go to the store which isn't very often because he usually comes home with a bunch of crap and doesn't get what we actually need . Normally I go to the store but I couldn't. I guess I should find time to always go myself.

He always forgets my list and then calls me while I’m at work to ask me what I wrote. I get so annoyed!

@frolic6 oh I text mine lists now. Can't get lost that way LOL
by (3.8k points)
@frolic6 we did wunderlist app. It’s free and works quite well. I no longer send him to the store, but we can both add what we need to the list as we run out of stuff.

@manning I’ll try it

YAAAASSS, I went as far as texting a photo of exactly what I want. NOPE!  Save your marriage order groceries online   At least the store shopper has the decency to text me when they are out and offer suggestions for alternatives and I can choose if I want to purchase or not.

May I suggest grocery online shopping? My daughter got me onto this. She stated one day, after work, she just COULD not face going marketing with her constantly aching bad foot, having worked all day, etc. So, she hunkered down with her computer and voila, picked up her groceries. It's logical.

@airsick I love this. Do it quite frequently

I’m I the only one that her husband likes going to the store? I think if I asked him not to go he would get hurt . I’m lucky cause he takes joy in sticking to our budget it’s like a competition if we can maintain it plus he helps me cook a lot he’s kinda picky with ingredients.
by (580 points)
Wish my husband liked to grocery shop and cook. You’re a blessed woman

@alisealisen33 I was a single mom for 9 years been married to him for two. Definitely grateful and blessed !

@barracoon8169 jealous. Mine made hanky pankies for the super bowl and he talked about it for like literally two weeks after he did it and he sent pictures to all of our family and friends because he made meat with bread on it.
by (1.6k points)
@barracoon8169 Nope. Mine likes to go as well and he sometimes finds an even better deal than I did.

My husband loathes it. When he goes he literally buys enough for a single meal at a time. If we are out and want to stop for groceries for dinner, breakfast, and lunch he gets such an attitude.

This is why I use instacart. 99% of the time I stay on budget and get almost everything we need. If I send him, I have to text him pictures. #theynevergrowip

Idk if this is an option where you’re from, but my local store offers curbside pickup. If you order 24 hours in advance, the shopping fee is waived. You can pick a time slot and everything.

Nope, I'm the one that always forgets to put things on the list and so I violate it everytime. When he goes he does amazing but I forget to put stuff on the list so technically doesnt get everything. Not his fault the grocery store is my biggest nugget ugh

Mine has gotten really awesome at sticking to it! When we actually sat down and discussed what was a *need* for groceries and what was just a *want*, and what we could make from scratch with stuff we were already buying, it really opened his eyes to how much money we could save and he very rarely strays from the list now

Yep, Walmart grocery delivery for me! If my husband goes to the store he will do the same thing not checking the prices and then not even using the store loyalty card so none of the sale prices apply

Mine does all the grocery shopping so you’d think he’d be better at it by now. Nope. same deal. He’ll even call me from the store multiple times to verify the list and still get the wrong thing or forget something on the list.

Two weeks ago I specifically told my boyfriend to go to KROGER when I was sick. Well he went to meijer cause it’s “closer” (2 minute difference). Cost was about $10 more than Kroger would have been

My husband hates the grocery stores. So, he will just grab and go. Then, he is in a bad mood just from being in the store. So, if I say anything about it being the wrong thing it just puts him in even a worse mood. It is just better for me to find time or order online and let him just pick it up. He will go to our local small town grocery store for milk or something else small, but that is it.

Oh I hardly ever let my husband go grocery shopping by himself. He usually spends way more then needed. He gets what's on the list and then some. I don't mind getting a few extra things. But, when I am expecting to spend say $100 and he ends up spending $200 that kind of puts damper on the budget.

Haha! This! Yes, I'm sick with walking pneumonia so I didn't get to go do my weekly shopping for the kids lunches and fresh produce. my hubby ended up going to the store FOUR DAYS in a row. It would be different if it was for something he forgot only, but each time there was unnecessary items. I told him he just blew our monthly grocery budget to hell! I'm avoiding adding the receipts to see the true damage!

Sounds really frustrating and expensive. Another perspective: Be thankful you have a husband and he's willing to grocery shop. Divorce and single parenting is even more expensive than $9 pretzels!
by (1.4k points)
@lidless I know that someone always has it harder than me. I was just very frustrated and sharing my frustration. I'm allowed to be thankful and irritated at the same time.

Yep! I sent mine to the store last night for TP. ONLY TP! He bought laundry detergent, we already had a bunch, & shampoo, cuz he was out of bar soap.  We have shampoo AND bar soap! Like really?!? And YES, its every time I send him to the store. My kids, adults, & I know guess/bet on how many things he'll come home with. Oh and I am very specific on brands on mist things, including TP. So last night he bought the store brand which is not any cheaper than the brand we all prefer. Ughhhhhhhhh!

If I send hubby, I literally spend the entire time on the phone with him texting, speaking, various video chats and selecting the items that are on the list (with exact info and price). realizing I should have just gone myself. ‍♀️ He usually only goes when I am unable to for some reason.

I do all the shopping for this reason. OR, if I need a few things and he’s in town, I literally screen shot the exact picture of what I want. That would be hard to do for a full grocery list, but if you want him to “help out” that is how I do it

Mine "follows" my list - but will call at least 3 times if not more with questions. He also doubles up on things. So I say we only need one shredded cheese for $2, well he has to get $4 worth. And he says its such a good deal, and I am like, we have a budget. Or if they are out of something he wont call, panics and pick what he thinks is a good compromise and it's always more expensive. lol I just have given up - it's better than me going and he is trying. :)
