I’m just curious and could use some thoughts on this. It’s just me and my 13 yr old daughter. I eat a low carb diet, pack my lunches for my daughter and I through the week. I take breakfast to work also. I work about 60-65 hrs a week with both of my jobs. Would it be beneficial to make a Costco run about once a month for the staples a household would need and then get the rest of our meal ingredients weekly at the grocery store? Or would you just go to the store every week and just buy what you need for the week and any staple things you need then at that time? This is a dilemma I’ve been running through my head for a couple weeks now. I just can’t make a decision on this.

I buy all my meats once a month. I AD shop and hit like 3 to 5 stores. Then I pick up other stuff weekly. Costco is usually one of the 5. My household is keto

@eventempered what kind of meals/snacks do you buy? I’m trying to convert my family

@orian379 chili with veggies. cabbage or zucchini lasagna. mexican cauliflower rice, protein and veg. Fresh fish from the fish market (I live in cali). Fathead dough pizza. Hot dogs wrapped in dough. For snacks I make cheese crisps, nuts, bacon, pickles, olives, thin sliced provolone cheese, deli meat, pork rinds, beef jerky.

We do Costco as well. We buy most of our snack foods, bread, some produce, toiletries and stuff at Costco. We find it saves us money. (We do also buy a few premade things there for quick easy meals as well. It saves us from getting fast food on busy days. )

We buy mostly food items and diapers. But, we bought a box of garbage bags that will last us a year lol.

I tend to hit Sam's club monthly for some items (though some items last longer than others) and weekly for grocery odds and ends. I find I save money doing it that way, less waste and more mindful spending when I limit on when we can make that trip. I think it depends on your needs, honestly.

I did a price comparison at my three stores I regularly shop at ( bj’s , Wegmans and Aldis) surprising BJ’s was only cheapest for 2-3 of our staples. So if I don’t get there often I realize I’m not really overspending too much. One unplanned item there and it suddenly cost me more not less. So I vote only go when you need to stock up.

We ditched Costco about 5 years ago and don't miss it. Our staples seem to last longer since we don't have a bulk supply sitting around. We use things, like toilet paper, dish soap, etc., more sparingly - but this is totally subconscious. When we need things in bulk, we just go to Smart and Final. The membership wasn't worth it for us and we could get out of that store with dropping at least $150.

If you have Amazon prime, subscribe and save might be your best bet.

@keelby2 have you had good experience with Amazon pantry?

@marlenemarler, not pantry as you have to fill a box, but subscribe and save is great. We get all our household, pet, toiletry, and beauty items and some groceries
