Hello!  I am starting my budgeting journey March 1st.Hello! I am starting my budgeting journey March 1st. Oof. What are some of the ways you kept the household fun and lively? I am already feeling some anxiety and resistance. I know it’s because great things will come of this. I don’t want these emotions to trickle over to my girls. I want to empower.

This is so silly but my boys have started taking their lunch to school instead of buying at school, my oldest kept saying “we don’t have any money we have to take our lunch” I said no we are saving money so we can have more of what we truly want out of life.  I also ensure funds for family date night and fun so that although yes, we are saving there are still funds to make sure we can go do at least one fun family oriented event a week that might cost money.

@trumpeter yes! I need to make sure I budget for fun. I need to have something when my brain starts to project into the future and then I get nervous and anxious and want to speed things up.

We give our kids an envelope and when we get paid, they get paid. They can spend it on what they like but when it's gone, it's gone. They learned real fast that if they blow it in 24 hours they are going to have a long 2 weeks ahead. Now that we are in the swing of things they try to see how much they can save to roll over. It has taught them a lot of good lessons and been pretty fun for us all.

@trumpeter Lauterbach I Love that! I know that my 2 oldest, 20 & 18, from young I taught them to pay attention to how many hours they had to and still have to work for the thing they want and then decide if it’s worth it. I should take my own advice

Good luck! I’m on my fourth month! What’s helped me is celebrating my little wins out loud to a friend or family after each pay cycle. Saved this much here to pay for this activity or fun thing over there. It helps me feel more in control and excited about the process rather than being tied down because of it
