Go to Sally’s don’t get box dyes. If you aren’t going lighter. I like clairol professional line at Sally’s the semi permanent my hair always ends up super shiny and healthy looking after. It only lasts about 4-6 weeks but it’s cheaper than having g someone do it and I don’t get that bad root line as it grows out and less damage on my hair. I also do my own highlights Jessie James dekker has a YouTube video on how to bayalage your hair. I’ve done that w slight variations from other videos on YouTube. I bought a big container of ion bleach/lightening powder for highlights and mix with a 20 developer I don’t go over 20 for at home. But I’ve also cut, dyed and highlighted friends, family and my own hair since 14.

@trombone ✔️✔️ i do this too. Its been year's since i had go to a salon

@waistcloth957 it’s just so much cheaper and I’m super super retail oriented so I’d go to a salon for cut and color and come home being like but I wanted it more like this and then end up fixing it myself lol

@trombone that's how I stop completely going to the salon last time i did my hair was so bad like so uneven and and damaged i wanted to cry it took so long to get it back to some what healthy

@waistcloth957 oh that’s awful! Luckily they never messed it up. I just feel like they did their idea of what I wanted and It wouldn’t be like the photo like I’d be missing shorter layers up front or something so I’d end up doing it when I got home. I’m a stay at home mom now. So honestly it just makes it easier to not have to make an Appt and be gone for hours, plus I never spend more than $5-20 tops and that gives me enough for a few touch ups lol

No amount of money would make me do my hair color at home.

I use professional hair dyes . i got a rose gold color as of now spend about $25 had most of the stuff already, but it takes time to learn how to do it your self. Most of my products are from Sally's but my sister in law has a beauty salon and she orders some things from me from her professional stores. Also my hair looks dry because of water damage from swimming

My salon has a service where they put the color on then you go home and wash it out! $25! They just started it so I haven’t tried it but I plan on it end of this month!

My hairdresser was a wealth of info. She felt bad charging me because my hair is super super short. So she told me exactly what to buy at Sally’s and what to do. I’ve been bleaching and toning my hair for probably about a decade.

As a hair stylist I’d say don’t do it. It’s horrible for your hair and when it gets messed up you’ll spend double or triple getting it fixed at a salon. Plus hours of time. Only saying this because I get soooooooooooooo many clients this way. Lol Buying something from Sally’s is a little better. Just don’t buy anything from Target or Walmart etc.

Sally Beauty. I have short hair so I get a lot of applications out of the products I buy and I'm not super concerned about messing it up. I just did my own highlights this past weekend and spent $20 with plenty of product leftover.

I started using Madison Reed this year. I could no longer justify the prices. I have tried a lot of at home hair dye then gave it up because it all sucked. BUT, this one works! Super soft hair, covers my gray really well and doesn't smell bad! Its definitely been worth it for me. I would not share something if it didn't truly work for me. I'm not sure if its ok to share links but this gives you a discount and me a credit. This link will get us both $15 off--

I’ve always colored my hair on my own and get lots of compliments. I use L’Oréal only. You can get coupons for them at Walgreens to save money.

@bigelow me too! I’ve been doing it myself for about 25 years, and definitely recommend Loreal!

Madison Reed is really the only at-home product not tested on animals. There are others I found, but they’re mostly non-US brands, so hard to get a hold of and a lot of shipping money and waste. ❤️

I have been doing it for awhile and I don’t have a problem with ordinary dyes.

I do box dyes. I never do them back to back, at most once a year and never had problems! I haven’t colored my hair in years now; actually was just thinking about doing this before maternity leave ends!

I'm platinum so I won't. Only trust my girl, and I'll probably be splurging on her until I finally go gray.

I buy my color and developer at ulta. The big bottle of developer will last a few dye jobs then you just buy your color, mix and your set!
