When Im finally out on my own after divorce I don’t feel confident managing the condo that will go to me, the stocks which I have no experience in, my everyday managing of the alimony, and the cash that I will receive. I just googled what a CFP charges and I CANT afford that! What to do, what to do?

You’ll learn. I did. Read. Research. The condo is easy. Find a repair guy that isn’t outrageous in pricing. There isn’t a lot of stuff you need to do.

Take a deep breath. It will take some adjustment but you will be fine! You can switch companies. Start shopping around. The key to investments is finding someone who will teach you and guide you.

Does your bank have a financial planner that you have access to for no additional charge?

You get a library card and you get to reading. There are books everywhere that will teach you. You get on YouTube and you start clicking. You can do this.

First step, budget. Start working on what your expenses will be and your income. Next step, find a financial planner who you feel comfortable with. It may take meeting with a few to get a feel for who is best. Don’t make any decisions until you are comfortable. It’s a lot at once but you can learn. One step at a time.

I’m in the same exact place. I’ve relied on my husband for 35 yrs for all the financial decisions. But I’m gaining confidence by learning now how to budget using this method! I just hope when our separation is complete that I actually have some money to manage!
