Hey everyone.  So I’ve been following TBM for about a month and a half now.Hey everyone. So I’ve been following TBM for about a month and a half now. So I’m just starting my sinking funds and EF. However last week while I was 5hrs away hiking with my boyfriend, my subframe of my car snapped in half. So not only was I 5hrs away but I also only had 200 miles on my triple A to tow home, so I had to pay $160 out of pocket for the remaining 38 miles. On top of that I had to get a rental which I still have because the shop is still waiting on the part which put me out $250 plus the $200 deposit I’ll get back. Thank god for my taxes dropping in the day my car broke. But now I’m fighting with the car company because I’ve been told by numerous people I should get reimbursed for rental and the mileage because the part is under warranty. When I called they said they would give me a rental for maybe 3 days and when I told them I had already gotten a rental because I needed to get to work and I already missed work, they said maybe they can reimburse me. Has anyone ever had this problem and gotten reimbursed for everything or even half? Just so annoyed to be out almost a grand for this car (additional parts need to be fixed from the subframe snapping that I have to pay out of pocket for) that I’ve been having non stop issues with but I owe more on the car then what it’s worth so it be a flop to trade it in. Thanks everyone!

Service departments typically have dealer rates negotiated with car rental companies. The rates are fairly well discounted. The vehicle is under warranty so I’m assuming it’s a 2018-2020? Low miles and has it been regularly maintained? Have you done all recommended maintenance? When was the last time you had it in for service? Unless you hit something with an incredible amount of impact, a subframe on a new car doesn’t just come off. Ask for a loaner car or rental car at dealer cost. I was a service advisor. If you have any questions let me know

Why are you paying out of pocket for anything if it’s warranty?

@metameric it’s a 2011 so it’s not new. But apparently the subframe is still under warranty till oct 2020. I did ask the dealership shop for a rental and they said they don’t do them I had to go in my own which sucks. Even my dad tried for me. As for maintenance I do the regular maintenance. And I just had my breaks done a month ago and the shop who stopped and helped us in Ny get home said when I got my breaks done they should have seen the subframe already cracking cuz for it to snap in half like that there had to been a crack already. And about 4 months ago it was in the shop twice for the same problem(different from the subframe) and after the second time my dad has a full service done and they said everything looked good. Besides driving to work and my boyfriends, I don’t take my car anywhere else.

Do you have a multipoint inspection sheet from your most recent services? If they did your brakes they saw the subframe. Oil change too. Tire rotation. It’s pretty hard to miss a cracked subframe

AAA did our rental when my husbands truck got hit. We had to wait for it to be reimbursed but it still helped - see if it is part of your policy. I never realize it was part of ours until his accident.

@appropriation triple a did say I could go to a certain car rental but the closest one to my boyfriend was almost 2 hours the opposite direction I needed to get home. And then the closet one to my hours was 45 mins.

@curcuma Oh yea I just gave the bill to our agent and he handled it from there.

My husbands 5 year old truck with only 39k miles blew its transmission when we were 5 hours from home. It was under warranty but they could not do a loaner for more than a day or 2 and car companies do not provide rentals on warranty issues. Some insurance companies may. ours only provides rentals in the event of a collision and that is even something extra that we pay for. Sorry this happened! Good luck

@tazza dealerships always provide loaners, especially for warranty issues. I’ve worked for two major vehicle manufacturers in service and I don’t know who shared that information with you but it’s incorrect.

@metameric we live 5 hours away. They were bot under any circumstances giving us a loaner for more than a day or 2 while we were in that state. It was going to take 2 to 3 weeks to get the truck back. I have never heard of a dealership giving someone a loaner for that long and definitely not if they live 5 hours and 4 states away

I said they do not provide rentals, she was asking about being reimbursed for her rental. Loaners sure. if they have 1 available and typically for a few days at most
