I have Geico and mine never had increased. It's gone down. However I'm a mature  driver with a great driving record. Also, I have an older vehicle.

Did your policy just renew?
by (1.1k points)
A policy can not increase mid-term without you making a change.
by (2.8k points)
@granddaughter69351 it’s about to in May and I saw that it increased
by (1.1k points)
@sonata so there are a million things that contribute to changes. Things such as driving record like getting a ticket to an accident. Your credit is a factor. The age of the vehicles and the age of the drivers. The next few years a lot of people will see increases due to state increases as well. Basically insurance companies raise rates as a whole because the numbers are increasing in people getting into to accidents because of things like texting and driving AND vehicles are becoming more expensive to repair with more and more technology being released.
by (2.8k points)
@granddaughter69351 yea but they raise it like $20 every time it renews and there’s no ticket or accident
by (1.1k points)
Call the carrier and they will do a policy review with you and see why it increased. Geico tends to go down the longer you’re with them so it would be my guess that there is another factor like the credit or a ticket.
by (1.1k points)
@sonata like I said, unfortunately tickets and accidents are just one of the many factors.
by (1.1k points)
Even the areas people live in are taken into consideration. If statistically there are more accidents where you live over a period of time, your rates can likely raise as well.
by (5.8k points)
@granddaughter69351 And when insurance companies need to keep their reserves in balance they raise rates to slow growth. This is why shopping around is such a good idea!
by (1.1k points)
@deplore20462 exactly! Unless you’ve been with a company for a million years and you’re grandfathered in with an old rating system (that rarely happens with auto policies) it’s always good to shop and see who’s competitive.
by (5.8k points)
@granddaughter69351 Yes! Too bad that doesn’t happen anymore. Lol.

Depends on your state. I know MI raised most this past year especially if you had comprehensive. It screws companies because you cant do anything about it. Geico and othera are known to raise rates and have obscene deductibles
+23 votes
by (9.6k points)
You always want to shop other companies annually. I’ve been with 4-5 different companies I already go to whoever has the best rate.

Most insurance companies did a country wide increase this year. Geico has always been expensive for me personally. I’m an insurance broker, definitely call a broker to have them price you out.
by (1.1k points)
@treblinka4704 I second this. Find an independent broker who writes with multiple carriers. They’ll do the leg work and shop around for you. They’ll know tips and tricks to help you save. They’re basically your advocate.
by (2.8k points)
@treblinka4704 yes, I’m going to because this is absurd. Now, correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t have to pay the broker or do I?
by (1.2k points)
@sonata no not at all! What state are you in?
by (1.2k points)
@granddaughter69351 literally it’s my job to find the cheapest insurance with the best rates/coverage and it doesn’t cost my clients anything. I love that I’m not ripping them off. Honestly. There are some shady agents, don’t get me wrong, but finding the right broker is the best!
by (2.8k points)
by (1.2k points)
@sonata I wish I could help, but look for a broker, with great reviews who can shop around with multiple companies.
by (7.4k points)
I pay $357 a month for 3 cars and trailer through GEICO. 2015 F150, 2013 Mustang (spots car is most expensive), 2018 Ford Fiesta and 2020 Jayco. It seems crazy to me but idk
by (2.8k points)
@mousy thats what I pay for just 2 cars so I think that’s a good deal ‍♀️
by (1.2k points)
@sonata everything is based on an insurance score and unfortunately your credit score. It’s different for everyone.

I know in Florida geico has taken a couple rate increases over the past few years. But we haven’t taken anything recently. Call them and ask for any savings opportunities

Mine increased and I have Geico. I called them and said well differs from state to state and where you live! I’m so pissed! and no savings opportunities!

No, I just got off the phone. They said they increased all premiums in NY and the reasoning was some canned response that they give every time. I really cannot believe them. I have to go car insurance shopping now
by (990 points)
@sonata is it more expensive in NY for 1 car full cover I was paying 350 now in NC still with Geico for 2 cars I pay 105 currently that will go up as I plan to include full cover on both cars and lower the deductible

by (600 points)
Yes. Before I knew it we were paying $400/month for 2 cars full coverage. We just switched to progressive
by (2.8k points)
@talkfest15 I’m at $350 for two cars and they just increased it to $386! Smh
by (600 points)
@sonata yeah it just kept going up. We switched to progressive and for what we wouldn't payed for 2 months($780) we paid for 6 months in full
by (2.8k points)
@talkfest15 did you go through a broker?
by (600 points)
@sonata no. Just went shopping around on my own
by (800 points)
@talkfest15 progressive will gradually raise as well.
by (4.1k points)
@talkfest15 keep your eye on progressive. They jacked my premium up. with no accidents and great credit.

I had GEICO for 6 months and it nearly doubled. Now I’ve switched to Root. It’s half the price, same coverage and my rate has not increased.
by (2.8k points)
@fervent thank you!
by (12.2k points)
@sonata I’m paying $275 every 6 months and I have full coverage. One car, good record, safe driver.
by (3.2k points)
@fervent I pay 56 a month for full coverage perfect driving record never any issues. I lowered it by adding a windshield deductible and it still went up $5 per month for the new year.

Yup! My car rating increased to a 5 star and after being with them 11 years and an accident and ticket free record it went up over $50. They said they couldn’t give me details other than that and it’s underwriting and they weren’t willing to reach for more info. Finally after 3 calls (and them trying to get me to discount my car ins by switching my home policy to them $800 more than what I’m currently paying they tried to convince me that droppped my car ins and that’s what I was looking for) I cancelled. Best thing ever!

Mine renewed last month and lowered an extra $4. I’m in Texas. Grant it, back in 2016 our rates were astronomical because EVERY insurance company was recouping the billions they paid out in claims from all the storms we had that year. Geico even told me that it would roughly take about 3 years to lower and they weren’t wrong. Last year my rate was reduced almost $45 at the first renewal of 2019. Then a few dollars the second renewal and now the $4 for 2020’s first renewal. Of course, I also get a sizable discount for being a member of a certain credit union they are affiliated with.

@tele770 same! I just got off the phone with them! Please let me know what they tell you
by (660 points)
@sonata they told me that the increase was company wide ‍♀️ and after our conversation with no help, she says “thank you for being a loyal customer for the last 10 years” - not for long! Looking for quotes
by (2.8k points)
@tele770 oh wow, I just contact two brokers yesterday. I’m hoping I get great info. One broker told me that he was able to get his client half the price of what the original GEICO policy and he explained that insurance companies will generally increase the rates for the good drivers to offset the costs of claims ‍♀️

@marchioness but ppl here are saying it didn’t increase with a renewal. Instead it stayed the same or decreased. I’m going to look for a broker. Thanks!

Mine went up about $20/month. I guess $455/month wasn’t enough for Geico
by (8.8k points)
Someone correct my if I was told wrong: I was told that when an insurance company has a significant amount of loss due to hurricanes, fires etc, they are allowed to raise EVERYONE’S rates to recoup their money. Not just people of the states affected

Our AAA insurance rose more than $100 in a year for 3 older vehicles. Home insurance bundled to supposedly get 20% off. They told my husband that if we want the previously low rates, we would need to agree to an app that monitors our driving speed, amount of hard breaking etc. We also went on a vacation where we drove and they said one of our vehicles didn't qualify as leisure because the miles we're too high. So that increased it.

Geico increased for me by $600 for the year I need to start calling other places and comparing prices they told me my mileage went up so not sure. That’s a huge increase.

Yes they said all insurances increased as of March. We have wawanesa. however we lowered our mileage and it decrease our total by $400 (from $1400) for 6 months! Def call and lower your miles if you’re working from home.

I’m in Florida, and my Geico insurance increased so I called. It turns out it was a form I needed to sign regarding my uninsured motorist coverage. The person I spoke with said the form has to be signed once a year. My rate was adjusted immediately after I signed the form. Definitely worth calling to see what’s up.
by (2.8k points)
@behah that’s funny because they didn’t say anything about that to me. They just said because of the state. They said they checked through everything and there were no more discounts available. I got quotes from progressive where it came out like $3 cheaper but with more coverage and esurance which came out $80 cheaper with a whole lot of more coverage
by (2k points)
@sonata Ah ok. I thought it was worth mentioning my situation just in case.
by (2.8k points)
@behah oh no I totally appreciate it because I bring what you guys tell me to their attention and it’s always the same response, “it’s different for each state”
by (2k points)
Yeah, I’m sure. This issue sounded specific to Florida.
by (450 points)
@sonata that is very true. It is different per each state. No 2 states are the same and they take into account the volume of accidents in each area as well. Many factors go into rating a policy.

I had Liberty Mutual for years and every year it went up $10-16 even though I have a clean record. I called and was told it was to offset other drivers claims. I switched to AAA last March. I just renewed my policy and without me asking, I was told due to no tickets/accidents and fair mileage I will now pay $20 less a month!
by (660 points)
I should add I’m also saving bc of the “bundle” discount since I also have renters insurance with AAA.
