What check?!  probably not getting one
by (5.2k points)
@elvaelvah every person with a social security number is getting a check to help during this time. $1200 per adult and $500 per child as long as you don't make over a certain amount on the last taxes you filed.
by (1.2k points)
@countercharge I make too much. so I will not be getting one  I think it’s anything over $99, 000

Saving it for taxes next year. This is a tax advance, not just free money, so I want to make sure I have it in case I’ll owe next year.
by (2.3k points)
@gift23732 I don’t know why people keep making this up. It is not an advance. It is a credit indefinitely.
by (2.7k points)
@tauro The government doesn’t just give free money.
by (2.3k points)
@gift23732 you’re getting mixed up on the wording and need it simplified. You only have to pay it back if you make more in the upcoming tax year over the bracket that is set.

Going to bills and upcoming bills we will be paying ahead since my husband will be furloughed for quite some time indefinitely. We already live bare bones because that’s just how we are. *Rent-car ins-streaming services-cell bill-internet *Also buying another big deep freezer because we have 5 kids and are a 9 person household so the less I have to go to the store during all this to expose us the better. We only have a small one right now and I’d like to freeze milk and other things

There seems to be confusion on the wording of these articles everyone is screenshotting and floating around. the IRS is adding a NEW line to the 2020 tax return for the stimulus. It is a NEW tax credit, therefore this won’t affect your 2020 tax liability/refund (unless in the rare case you earn significantly more in 2020 then you did in 2018 or 2019). People are saying it’s an “advance” because you’re getting the money for the NEW credit now. If you don’t receive a check for some reason, then when you file your 2020 tax return, you will be eligible to receive the $1, 200 or so credit as an addition to your 2020 refund. But if you receive the check NOW, you obvs won’t receive a refund in 2021 for the NEW tax credit because like most people you are receiving the money now. Signed- a CPA

I don’t get one because I am still working
by (1.8k points)
@pithead that doesn’t matter
by (2.9k points)
@pithead if you make under $99K ($150K if married) you'll get $1200 per adult plus $500 per kid, even if you're still working.
by (1.4k points)
I read something the other day that if you are still working you don’t get one. I’m trying to find it lol
by (1.4k points)
But of course I can’t find it lol
by (760 points)
@pithead you get a check regardless if your working or not. You just have to under the income bracket
by (2.3k points)
@pithead you get the $1200 stimulus. If you were unemployed you’d get $600 extra which you won’t get if you are working
by (530 points)
@pithead Everyone gets a stimulus check regardless of employment status at this time, unless you make more than the cutoff amount.
by (4.3k points)
@pithead no. As long as you are Under the income requirements.
by (470 points)
@pithead as long as you meet income guidelines, you get it girl. ❤

The stimulus money we are getting is for us to go spend to “stimulate” the economy! This is NOT owed back next tax session. Your 2020 refund will not be effected as far as paying it back to the government.
by (520 points)
@bullard2 . exactly! I don’t understand how people don’t understand this. This isn’t the first time we’ve gotten a stimulus check, Bush did it years back. It’s actually something republicans like to do.

We have a baby due in August and because of all of this we will probably not have a baby shower or anything. So, we’re going to use it to buy what we need to get for the baby and then save the rest for when I’m off of work for the summer and not getting paid (teacher)
by (650 points)
@tonsure10 Stern I am not sure how close you are to your family and friends, but I just saw someone have a baby shower that was a little different but successful. She and her husband set up a table outside (either at their home or at the park) and had cupcakes that they could eat or take to go. There were balloons and other decorations. The parents to be were parked right there sitting in the back of their SUV to greet everyone. I think this party was more of an “open house” style. Just a suggestion if you are close with a lot of friends and family. ❤️
by (2.6k points)
@tonsure10 Stern Us too. I'm due in July and will likely not have any kind of a shower.

You have to file your taxes this year in order to get it right? Do they send out an email letting you know you’re going to receive it?
by (650 points)
@popeyed No. If you have not filed your 2019 taxes then your stimulus check will be based on your 2018 taxes.
by (1.1k points)

‼️Make sure your address & direct deposit information is correct on the IRS’s website everyone‼️
by (520 points)
@deadening35881 where do you check this?
by (2.7k points)
You can create an account on the IRS. gov website or you can verify the information from your 2018/2019 tax return matches your current information.
by (520 points)
Do you have to do that if you already did your taxes this year?
by (2.7k points)
@sapienza no, this is for people who have moved, changed banks or marital status recently.
by (520 points)
by (520 points)
If you have already filed taxes this year you don't need to do anything. They have your current info.

@dachy56237 yes everyone will if you are under the threshold of $75k single or $150k married you will get full amount. Up to $99 and up to $199 from the stipulated amount for every $100 over is $5 less. If you are over them you get nothing. Everyone gets it as long as you did your taxes for 2018 and or 2019.
