Wells Fargo credit card payment question. Hi guys, I recently got a Wells Fargo propel card and have never had a Wells Fargo credit card before. On any of my other credit cards I can make as many online payments monthly as I please and I always pay off any purchases as soon as they post. I went to make an online payment today on the Wells Fargo card and it wouldn’t allow me to because I had reached the limit of online payments using a non Wells Fargo bank account. Is this a normal practice for Wells Fargo? I don’t like the idea of having to call to make a payment after I reach that limit. I have never heard of this and would like some more insight. Thanks

I don’t know about their credit cards but I can say that I most certainly hate everything about Wells Fargo. They are geared towards big corporate America and don’t suit well with the average American. They Nickel and dime over everything and have the dumbest rules ever. I had a business banking account with them and it was just problems left and right lol.

@evermore5 I am definitely not using this account after I meet the sign up bonus. I’ve heard of many people have issues with checking accounts with them as well. I’m glad you got rid of them!

@tiruchirapalli20623 one time in particular I had my account set up so that every week a X amount would transfer automatically from my checking to my savings. I stopped putting money in the checking account because I didn’t want to use them anymore . so I didn’t have X amount in my checking and they tried to transfer it and it overdrew my account so it charged me $35 every week until I finally got a letter one day and I had almost $200 in bounced fees due ! I was livid because I was literally being charged for not having my own money in the account to transfer it to my own dang account . They gave me a tough time on getting my money back but that was the straw that broke the camels back.

@evermore5 id you set up auto drafts they are obligated to process them. You didn’t have money in your account and neglected to cancel that request for auto draft. That really wasn’t the bank’s fault. That transaction would be treated the same as if was being paid to a 3rd party. If you authorize a transaction the money needs to be there to cover it.

@thales I don’t think you understand haha. It was being transferred to my own account and it was all my own money and the accounts were connected. You can assume it wasn’t the banks fault but my new bank after that doesn’t have that rule. Wells Fargo is the only one I have seen ever do that.

@evermore5 I understood perfectly. You asked the bank to establish a transaction and you didn’t cancel that request. So when the bank tried to process it, they are wrong for doing what you asked them to do. I have accounts at 4 different banks and if I set up a request and the funds aren’t available for it, the requests would still be attempted. Are there banks that don’t charge overdrafts, like CapitalOne? Sure. But they would still attempt to process the transaction and send me a notice that no funds were available. If something gets messed in my account because of something that I did or didn’t do, I certainly reach out and ask for a courtesy waiver. If I get one, cool. If I don’t I understand because the error was mine. To go around telling people that a business is awful because I made a mistake isn’t right.

@thales This wasn’t the only crappy experience with them so I said this was the straw that broke the camels back or else I wouldn’t be saying they are awful. There is a lovely list of experiences I can offer. Them being crappy is my opinion and my experience. Clearly you’ve always had wonderful experiences so that’s great for you but that’s isn’t the case for everyone and I’m sharing. Also, they are wrong and you don’t even understand what I’m talking about at all. Them moving the funds wasn’t the issue at all if you read it. So, to go around saying that my experience is the wrong experience is your mistake. Wells Fargo sucks .

I don’t know but mine does it too. I try to lump my payments together to cut down on the amount of times.

@blacktail yeah I wish I would have known! It’s so annoying

I think it’s a sneaky way of trying to get you to sign up for a checking account.

I know Amex does the same thing. Others have mentioned other cards that do this.

Everyone has negative experiences w big banks. It’s not necessarily them being sneaky about getting a checking acct. I’ve personally never had linked CC’s. So I can’t speak for the paying online. If it gets to be too annoying, I’d just set the payments/extra aside and avoid that all together. Good luck!
