Question, I was working full time at my job before all of this and was supposed to drop to Part time in March to go back working primarily at my other job. I ended up accepting a higher paying job at the same place as the job I was leaving to. Both my old job and new job were closed due to Covid so I was able to get unemployment. Now my old job wants to bring me back full time next week. My new job has not yet said when we can start. I'm very excited for thr new job and woukdnt hesitate to start there when they say. But I really dislike my old job and thought I was supposed to be part time, and wanted to remain part time. If I was part time they also wouldn't be bringing me back to work next week. If they are brining me back full time then I'm also taking a huge pay cut each week. I want to quit and then just wait for my new job to start but don't know how that will affect continuing to get unemployment?

If you quit you won’t get unemployment. But it’s a hard one because since you do have the other new job and it is closed due to covid you would be eligible. I would try consulting EDD or just let the old job go and reapply for unemployment under the new job and see what they say.

If you deny employment, you can also get denied unemployment. If they decide to not bring you back yet because you want to be part time, I believe you might still qualify but if you quit, you won’t qualify anymore. Ultimately, I’d get a hold of your state’s EDD and confirm answers them

Thats what I was thinking, I was supposed to have already been dropped to part time status but they kept me as full time, so I still want them to put me as part time, and then not bring me in also yet, then once I started my new job hopefully next month then just leave my old job probably or just work like one day a week if I did both

They ask on your weekly certification if you were not willing & able to return to FT work. So if you say no, they will disqualify you. There’s no place to explain you have 2 jobs. If they disqualify you, you can appeal it & explain. But it’s best to ask someone from unemployment. Call early in the morning when they open

I would think if you tell them you’re only supposed to be part time and they don’t bring you back you should be fine with unemployment. Just my though though.
