We officially started our first week of budgeting/TBM on Wednesday when our tax refund came in. I pulled our envelope money, stopped to pick up needed items (5 separate transactions at Walmart, grateful for self checkout for this! ). We didn’t have a huge refund, but once my husbands pay hit the bank yesterday, I sat down and paid bills. And I was EXCITED! I don’t remember a time that I was excited to pay bills. Why? This right here - Paid off remaining balance on our mattress - $638 Paid off remaining balance on my Affirm loan(s) - $938 (SAVED $47 in interest by paying off! ) Paid an EXTRA $135 on our next debt (credit card) Saved $50 for our February $25/wk challenge (biweekly pay) Saved $35 in 5’s for the $5 challenge And we have money left in our envelopes! Might not seem like much to some, but with a 1. 5yr old, one due next month and both my husband and myself spending money on crap we don’t need for who knows how long. the fact that we have cash set aside that’s being saved is a massive win for us! And, since I budgeted low for his pay, we ended up with a $160 checking cushion we weren’t expecting - this was a lifesaver this week because our microwave unexpectedly died. So yeah. I’m kind of excited. We might not be looking at triple digit numbers in the bank or have gobs of money stashed away (yet lol), but I’m so glad I found TBM at the right time and got us started on our journey on a positive note!

A few years ago when I got my tax refund I would go to the store and buy all the essentials (toilet paper, shampoos, trash bags, paper towels, laundry detergent, etc. ) Hundreds of $$ worth to save for the whole year. Since I had a kid in diapers still I also bought about $200-300 in diapers too of all different sizes. I think we are still using them since he was in a certain size for so long and never moved onto the next size until now. Saved us trips to the store and money that I otherwise probably wouldnt have on hand at the moment.
