Any Houston, Texas peeps on here? Our family is giving some serious thought to moving there and I'd love some insight on cost of living, quality of life, best school districts, and taxes. My husband would be keeping his current salary and insurance, just relocating. We're currently about 40 minutes North of Seattle. The high cost of living and constant gloom are starting to get to all of us. THANK YOU ♥️

Native houstonian here. No state income tax but property taxes are high. Be prepared to drive everywhere. It's super spread out and traffic is terrible. Live as close to your jobs as you can afford

@townshend my husband's commute at one time was 2 hours + roundtrip. Now it's 1. 5 hours roundtrip.

@formal3 I think 1. 5 hours RT is about average around here

It is hot, we have hurricanes and depending on what area you choose to live it can flood pretty easily. I live on the west side of Houston close to Katy. I find it’s definitely cheaper than Washington. My mother lives near Vancouver, WA and we visit her all the time!

@townsfolk69 how does one go about finding out what areas are prone to flooding or have previously flooded?

Harris County Flood Control should have a map. Right off hand Meyerland and Kingwood come to mind.

I live south of Seattle and it’s crazy expensive here. We just moved here from Vermont. I’m not a fan of all the gloom, it’s a great day when the sun is shinning!

@haynes Summer is beautiful here, it's just the other 9 months of the year. Get a happy light and be sure to check your Vitamin levels every year.

Don’t do it! Traffic is horrible, we have hurricanes, floods every time we have torrential rain even in areas where there was no flooding in prior years. We only have summer and 3 days of winter in the 50sz

Live in the suburbs of Houston (30 min north) and love it. Check out The Woodlands and Oak Ridge North area. Klein ISD and Conroe ISD are great school districts.

I live on the outskirts of Houston (cypress). I live the school district my kids go to and I would not be able to afford a home inside the city limits.

I’m in Houston! I lived in north central Texas for 4 years (Stephenville) and I miss it. I grew up near Galveston in Santa Fe (1 hr south of Houston) and I hated it. I lived inside the 610 loop in bellaire and I didn’t care for it either. Too much traffic, I thought it was a good area when I moved but every few streets would be terrible. The private schools in bellaire are great, not the public schools. Now I live on the west side and LOVE IT. I’m in the energy corridor which is between Katy & Memorial on i10. Where would he be working? There is so much traffic, try to live close.
