Some advice needed please.  My son is 19, hormonal & very sweaty, to be frank quite stinky sweat! Some advice needed please. My son is 19, hormonal & very sweaty, to be frank quite stinky sweat! He showers in antifungal & antimicrobial shower gel containing tea tree oil amongst other scents & uses deodorant but it just doesn't seem to be enough. He's tried Dryclor roll on but not even that seems to help. He changes regularly, showers regularly, his clothes get washed regularly as does his bedding. His sweat leaves patches on his t-shirts & hoodies which I just cannot remove. Any ideas welcome on how I can help him with this stinky, sweaty situation or is it just a case of waiting for the hormones to calm down ? I know he's embarrassed by it. I love him loads & I really want to help him Thank you for reading

Put neat white vinegar on the stains on his clothes and then wash as normal.

I had about a year of sweating really bad i would wake up in night completely soaked I thought I was going through the “change” but I’m only 31 lol so went to doctors and they said excessive sweating can be a number of things so I would take him to doctors so they can do a blood test it might be anything from thyroid to tb or even just an imbalance of hormones  x good luck x

Go to the GP but they may recommend Botox in the glands as it can help prevent sweat. X

Is he on any medication? If not my friend had the same issue and started vigorously exercising at least 1hr a day and at first it was even worse like the sweat was pouring off them but after a while of doing it, the smell decreased to what I'd call normal and eventually the sweating in its self did too. May be worth a go?

Hanging clothes in the rain neutralises sweat smells. Can he try mitchum? It's great stuff

Go to the pharmacist first, they usually know what to do. Or the doctors, he may need a blood test

I agree with a doctor visit to rule out any medical issues/ hormone imbalance but also without wanting to seem judgemental look at his diet, my ex had an issue with excess sweat that while he didnt smell particularly offensive his sweat seemed very oily and if i rolled onto his side of the bed when he had been sweating my skin stung. he refused to see a doctor but i definately noticed the issue was worse when he was eating large ammounts of sugary and greasy food

He should see his GP, they prescribe specialist anti perspirants or even botox.

I would go see doc, he may have a medical reason for his sweating, thyroid etc.

As a mother of boys, I can confirm that boys do smell & it’s not for not being clean, I blame the hormones ! Think of how men sweat & how they ruin pillow cases. never ends lol x

If you dont already, I'd recommend using Bio detergent rather than non bio :-) the enzymes help break down the particles (sweat). x

I'll second the HibiScrub. I have a similar issue, no matter what soap I use I get out the shower smelling still. So I use HibiScrub. It's probably not great for your skin, it smells quiet medical, but it does the job. I'll also second him seeing a doctor about it.

I would take to the doctors, poor lad for putting up with it. I would stop washing so much as the more you wash the more your body will produce as the surface oil is being washed off with every wash. My daughter uses arm pit pads that stick on the pits of clothes as her work uniform makes her sweat and leave patches. Shes used them for a while now and buys them off amazon

Mitchum deodorant spray rather than roll on and try the nivea coconut or plain body wash too much scent might be reacting to it! My partner gets hot sweats and it works

It sounds like it could be hyperhidrosis. I had it when I was a teen and used Anydrol Forte and it helped alot.

Take him to drs to see if there is anything underlying. The other thing is Botox in armpits meant to be amazing.

Soak stained clothes in vinegar and rub in a little salt to loosen the stain before washing. A trip to the doctor like others suggest but also to the dietician. He needs to drink loooaaads of water. cut out all processed food & sugars. plenty of fresh fruit and veg. Lots of exercise will also help. The more he sweats it out and drinks water than the cleaner his skin will get and the less he might smell xx

He might be over washing. You need natural bacteria on your skin to keep it healthy. I wouldn’t use anything. But he probably could do with probiotics to regrow his bacterial protection.

Botox can help. I’d Susan to gp and state you’ve tried a range of products and see if you can get a referral. Hope you both get some relief

Mitchum spray and roll on helps a lot. I've recently found that the body shop's sport roll on helps too. Drs are reluctant to do much about this

I'm gonna say best to take him to see a doctor but in the mean time try using a ph balancing shower wash like femefresh. Also try using an antiperspirant rather then deodorant and maybe use talcum powder - I like using a liquid talcum powder because it's easier to apply and doesn't puff out everywhere.

A spray called Odaban is good. You apply it at night and wash it off in the morning. It only needs to be applied every few days till the sweating is under control.

He should speak to his doctor. He may well have hyperhydrosis and botox injections in the areas where there are apocrine sweat glands such as the armpits can be very effective where the patient has exhausted all the other measures.

When I was a teenager I had a similar problem. I didn't swear much, but the odour was quite bad. The dermatologist prescribed some antibiotic cream. After 3 days the problem was gone. I washed and ironed all my clothes to make sure the subject would end there

Use Mitchum roll on. My sons were stinky but you need a anti perspirant and deodorant combined. It’s pretty much eliminated it
