I have a weighted double shower curtain in my wetroom, so they form a large square. Only got put up in october. but how can I stop the bottom going mouldy all the time? It's only the bottom strip with the weights in it.

I put mine in the kitchen sink with BOILING hot water and a lot of bleach and leave it it to soak overnight! Come down in the morning and it’s brighter than Simon cowells teeth

After use tie it up with a bobble let it dry out

@bittencourt it's always out, never bunched up, and because it's two separate curtains as well, it's always a third out, as I like it that way lol The radiator is always on in that room, the window gets cranked after every use. The fan works when the light is on. Its mega annoying :/

I wash mine in washer once a week
by (910 points)
@sheridan Elizabeth Ann Nicol this has weights sewn in the bottom of each curtain, so dont think they can go in the washer :/
by (750 points)
@sheridan Elizabeth Ann Nicol I wash mine every week too with weights in the bottom exactly the same as the picture

@reinsure9925 soak in a bowl with mould remover spray
by (910 points)
@kneehole ah yes I could try that, I have an old square bowl I can use. Bleach tends to just fade it :/
by (360 points)
@reinsure9925 mould remover spray in b and q, try spraying it directly onto the shower curtain, leave in for a bit then rinse with water.
by (360 points)
@reinsure9925 they sell this in b and q. Brill stuff

I've tried soaking mine in bleach and washing in the machine with bleach but it still has black Mark's on that I cannot shift but I cant justify the cost of new ones
by (910 points)
@shay6502 I wouldnt know where to get these from they were fitted through my disabled facilities grant. Special length, wider than normal and weighted. Bloody things lol
by (320 points)
Maybe a busket with some of the astonish mold a mildew in just enough for the ends ‍♀️
by (2.1k points)

I put mine in wash on silk wash add beech comes up lovely
by (910 points)
@ostracon38336 I dont think it can go thru the washer its weighted in that bottom channel
by (1.9k points)
@reinsure9925 soak it in Bath with some ariel and bi card then again with beech always put in old pillow case in machine
by (910 points)
@ostracon38336, yes, that's an idea, will have to get some help as the bath is upstairs and I dont think I can trail them up on the stair lift lol. They are huge shower curtains, longer and wider than normal ones, so the bath is probably the best option. Sometimes you cant best wash powder for some jobs.

I use astonish mold and mildew sprayed on it in an empty bucket overnight then take it down and wash in the machine on its own with biological washing powder you won't stop it from happening but I do it every month and after each shower spray it with shower cleaner any brand is ok ie: tesco/asda own or mr muscle or method and this helps keep the mild from getting too bad x

I soak mine in a bucket with baking soda or soda crystals and white vinegar then rinse and put through the washing machine with powder and more soda and it comes up really white and clean

I shove my shower curtain in the washing machine quite often. Give it a spray with mould and mildew remover first let it stop dripping then wash.

Can you take the weights out sorry only just saw it was weighted xxx
by (910 points)
@pegeen I have had a look, all stitched up. Tomorrow they are being attacked with mould remover to see what it does. Then a soak in a bleach bucket the next day. and maybe the next. it's a job because only one curtain at a time will hang in the bucket lol. Why dont they make them mould resistant!
by (820 points)
I've always wondered the same hope it works xx
by (910 points)
Its just hard. I can't reach to unhook because I have a dodgy elbow and cant use my right arm very well and can't stand on a step to solve that problem because my right leg is numb, and I am not safe Haha. So getting it down is not a solution to me, I only can do it when i have help. And lockdown is meaning fat chance of that.
by (820 points)
@reinsure9925 oh no bless ya xx
by (910 points)
@pegeen challenges. I always try my best before calling in reinforcements lol. Going to now search for a spare pair of weighted curtains lol

Not sure if anyone has suggested already, but Milton (or any cheap steriliser tablets, I get them in the baby section at the supermarket for pence) diluted in a bottle and sprayed on might do the trick. If you've got a bucket you could perhaps make a solution of it and hang the bottoms in!

by (910 points)
@june90 I am disabled so cant get it down, only when I have help.
by (710 points)
@reinsure9925 try using a spray bottle with bleach then once a week love, I thought it might still be there after washing it that's all sorry I realise that sounded rude wasn't intended x
by (500 points)
Bowl of bleach, dip it in, Then rinse with the shower
by (910 points)
@june90 that's ok. It's just seems like a never ending battle. New routine every week. I think. Determined to do it myself lol

Let it dry properly before scrunching it back up after a shower
by (910 points)
@bromism42769 both curtains are left drawn out, because it helps section off the wet room firstly. It's like this because I have been sat on my shower chair inspecting it lol
by (420 points)
Thats what I do bleachy water in a bucket and leave to soak until its all gone.

Why do you need weights in them - or am I missing the point
by (910 points)
@albertoalberts5496 it's for a disabled adapted wet room, so the weights stop the curtain from flapping and maintains your dignity xx The shower is also positioned so someone else can turn the spray on. Safety shower, so it's all pre set. So we get these lovely curtains with it
by (4.8k points)
@reinsure9925 oh, I see. I wouldn’t think that it’s rust as they must be made ‘fit for purpose’ , so I reckon it must be a type of wet mould - I’d soak the edges in a bucket of bleach solution, that should shift it

That curtain you have there is not the best quality, the ones that come with the shower when its fitted never are. When its opened again IKEA do a really good quality curtain with proper lead weights that don`t go rusty like that white £8 each. Myself I stopped buying these long ago preferring something with a bit of colour works just the same.
by (910 points)
@meliorate6571 sadly we dont have an ikea Haha, rural lincolnshire hasnt caught up yet

You cant stop it happening as its soap build up from shower gels. Unless you wash it every time you use it. It's a problem you just tackle every now and then. I have the same issue. I just take them down wash them and put spare pair up
by (910 points)
@echidna32676 yes have made the decision to get a spare pair x

I spray mine with elbow grease and wash it every other week. No conditioner just washing powder. It’s like a towel you wouldn’t leave that lying around for weeks on end, I wash outdoor coats and stuff too and dry them. My shower curtain comes up brand new. You’ll be surprised

I have the exact same flooring too & I don't know about you but I hate it, it's so difficult to clean because it's textured
by (910 points)
@dysphemia I find discinfectant is the best way, so I really wet mop the shower bit. Then move back and wring it out a bit more for the rest. But its terribly on the mop heads :( They dont last long!
by (4.6k points)
@dysphemia we use a window squidgy with a long handle to clean our dads wetroom floor it works for us.
by (5.2k points)
@reinsure9925 in desperation I've left neat bleach on overnight, just once & it made no difference. Now I use bleach water once a week, it looks ok but never clean enough if you know what I mean
by (5.2k points)
@reinsure9925 also yes, it shreds the mop heads
by (5.2k points)
@eboat good idea!
by (4.6k points)
@dysphemia it was doing our heads in trying to get it clean we also use star drops with ammonia
by (5.2k points)
@eboat that flooring is an absolute nightmare!
